Cars are often portrayed as a reflection of the owner's personality in the same way a pet might. This has never been more true than in the case of Sonny and Cher's pair of customized '66 Mustangs. These are amongst the most over-the-top 'Stangs ever customized for the eccentric pair of entertainers from the 60's, and the work was done by famed customizer George Barris.
These classics spent most of their lives at publicity events for Sonny and Cher, as well as appearing in the pairs only feature-length film,
Good Times. Both cars will be put up at auction February 6-8 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida by RM Auctions.
Sonny's Mustang was painted with a Murano Gold Pearl and features a large dark brown panel along the side, while Cher's pony is a hot pink pearl featuring dark red side panels, and both cars have equally extravagant interiors.
The inside of Sonny's car is lined with Bobcat fur and antique buffed leather with suede, while Cher's car features Ermine (white weasel) fur and antique Scottish leather upholstery. Both cars also got 3-inch Mouton carpeting, in gold and hot pink respectively. Both cars also feature custom Cougar-esque grills and plenty of chrome trim. These are truly customized, one-of-a-kind cars that would add historical value to any collection as well as a dash of outlandishness.
