I would suggest just getting new ones - there is for sure different quality of lug nuts. The cheap crap you buy at the auto store comes straight from overseas.

If your using these lug nuts for your tires and then for your slicks then your screwed and you must buy new ones depends how many times they come on and off.
The only good news is that lug nuts are cheap and plentiful at summit or at Jegs.

Good luck

Mac tools and Snap On tools make an aluminum, teflon lined, set of lug sockets. They are a bit pricey but will take some of the metal on metal contact away.

I'm sorry, did you say your nuts are rusty!
I would look at the wrench. It may have a burr on the inside that is scratching the lug nuts then resulting in rust. Another issue could be happening which may be galvanic corrosion. The base of the lug nut could be the right combination of steel and the rims the right combination of aluminum, static electricity and wham o, oxidation!

Well, you should always make sure your nuts and tool are properly cleaned and not full of rust. Rust can cause allot of damage. No one wants a rusty tool.
