Though the Mustang is associated with the sleek horse that graces its front grill, the car was not named for the graceful equine. Rather the name for the original 1961 mid-engine Mustang prototype came from John Najjar, who was a fan of the World War II era P-51 Mustang. Last year, ROUSH latched on to this little bit of buried history and released the P-51A Mustang for 2008. They brought it back for a limited 2009 run of just 51 Vapor Silver colored coupes with a few changes for this year, including now being titled the P-51
B.
What stays the same is the supercharged 510 horsepower
ROUSH V8 and the only available transmission remains a 5 speed manual. In addition to that, you get specially embroidered seats and floor mats, ROUSH black chrome rims (versus standard chrome rims from '08), six piston front brake calipers, Cooper and Roush engineered high performance rubber for the wheels, and painted hood graphics instead of the vinyl graphics of the previous year. Prices are expected to be around $61,000.
