On Saturday, Oct 10th, 2009, a ROUSH powered car took the new NHRA national record in the Super Stock “D” Automatic class. As can be found on the updated NHRA records site, Rock Haas has set the record pass for the SS/DA class.
According to
ROUSH Performance, the car was powered by a 5.4 liter ROUSH Competition engine.

The competition built 5.4 liter 4V Cobra Jet engine powered team Haas-Carrothers-Wagner 2008 Ford Mustang was driven by Rock Haas of White Lake, MI, in the record-cracking pass. Alongside team co-owner and ROUSH Performance Powertrain Engineer Kyle Carrothers, the Haas-Carrothers-Wagner team managed to build a record-setting car for the event in Indianapolis, IN.
Haas took the ROUSH powered Mustang down the strip for an elapsed time of 9.16-seconds at 147 mph, breaking the existing record of 9.25 seconds at 143 mph.
In accordance with NHRA competition rules, to break record in the NHRA, the driver must back it up within one percent. Haas did so with a pass of 9.20-seconds.
As for the background on the vehicle and team, it is believed this was the first ROUSH Mustang in NHRA competition. Prior to this, the NHRA only approved powertrains for competition as they came from the factories in Detroit. Upon approval, these ROUSH supercharged mustangs have been allowed to race in the NHRA Stock and Super-Stock class. The Haas-Carrothers-Wagner team prior to building this car had won three consecutive NHRA Division 3 Championships in 2004-2006.
