Question about roller rockers
My question is, can I use 1.7 roller rockers on my engine without further modifications. I have a 302 which currently has 1.6 FRPP rollers on it. The engine consists of....... stock bottom end from 00 explorer, gt40p heads, 1.6 rollers, e cam, explorer intake with one inch spacer, 24lb injectors, 65mm throttle body, prom mass air, under drives and a few other goodies. Does anyone know if I have enough clearance to run the 1.7? All help would be appreciated. How much more lift would I be getting from the 1.7s. Someone told me about .030.

Cobra Mike - the answer is yes, absolutely. You can run 1.7s, and in terms of lift, it's an easy equation. The stock cam is .444 lift. So when you divide by 1.6 and times x 1.7 you get .471 lift.

We just a did a story on Harland Sharp bolt-down rocker arms as well, I'll make sure we get you the links.

Just to add to this, I put the HarlandSharp 1.8:1 billet rockers on my mustang and it was a great upgrade and worth about 20hp. I have a tuner of course which I used to tune it afterwards. A tuner also helps if you have any idle issues after the install.

Really - you did the 1.8:1 rockers, that's cool. What is the rest of your combo.

It's a long list but it's not super charged because I'm the N/A type of person for the most part.
I've done all the norms and believe in upgrading the internals i.e; crank, connecting rods, pistons, cam, stage 2+ heads, ported intake, tune, rear gears, traklok, and to get all the HP and Torque to the rear tires a quality PI w/billet cover, all new internals etc.. , 2800 stall torque converter. Then used my tuner to adjust the tranny valve body stuff like torque modulation, shift points and firmness. I won't say what tuner I use but it even lets you change the tire size and gear ratios as well so that the speedo works well. I actually have the Rev and speed limiters turned off as well as the traction control. This tuner does it all basically. There' a lot of good tuners out there. It's going to my sons when he's ready and I'll get a 2010 stang most likely. It will be a convertible again and if that Ecoboost V6 is available I won't think twice about buying a model that has it in it if the test drive is what I expect. I do mostly all my own work so it would be a change having a turbo charged engine/setup. A factory twin turbo by Ford Racing isn't going to scare me off a bit. I may change my mind about which engine and model when it's time. If I can afford the Shelby I'll be going that route though. I just don't know if I'll be able to swing it by the time I'm ready. Time and bucks will tell.
