Project 666: Electrical Bugs
Anyone who has worked with electrical will tell you that if you don’t know what you are doing, then don’t. It is very easy to mess something up with doing wiring. I would advise everyone to take a class on automotive electrical/electronics, (Yes, they are different things). Even if it is at the local community college, you will learn the basics to help you solve any problems.

That’s exactly what I did. And that is the reason our Stang is running right now. After a little bit of know how and a wee bit of luck, I was able to fix the electrical bug that was in our Stang. The problem was, as you may have read before, a bad alternator. The thing to remember is while alternators do “go bad” sometimes, more often than not something else causes it to over work and die. The second was the case with our ’86 Mustang.

So after doing a few tests on some of the systems on the car the problem was traced to the fan and water pump circuits. With both of them drawing over 3 volts, something was shorted and the question wasn’t what is, it was where. So after finding a short in one of the wires and a quick repair job it was time to try it again. And work it did, this time the two circuits only dropping about a volt or so. So now it looks like this beast is ready to go to the track. I know I can’t wait, cause I’m the one that will be driving it.

Now the only problem is water leaking from a broken bolt. We snapped a 24-year old water pump bolt when installing our beautiful Meziere water pump and now we've got to fix this.... fun fun!

Tom's fault.
I'm blaming Tom. It's all the New Guy's fault. The FNG don't know jack and he's always breaking stuff.

Oh, yes I did go there.

Threw Tom under the bus, drove over him, backed it up and drove over him again.

Newbie to the site and want to know more about project 666. Are there any links from the begining of the build as far as motor and suspension?

Yes, we have a section on it, under project cars. Go here to see what few updates we have: http://www.stangtv.com/projects.php
I have not been as proactive as I need to be with posting on this project, so you have my apology. BUT.......We can help you with what ever information that you need to know about this project or these model stangs.

This is actually pretty neat because you have taken the time to leave some feedback. I've been wanting to know what our readers want to see. Having said that, let me ask you: What is it that you would like to see done in regards to this project? If you give us a good idea of what you'd be interested in, I'd love to grab a camera man and give you some overview.

You might want to check out these links on some stuff we've done to 666:

Roll Stop.

Manual Brake Conversion. We have a full blown article on this coming up very shortly.

Alternator replacement.

And thanks for taking the time to ask the question. We really love to know what our members think, and want to see.

By the way.....how did your steering shaft issue come out? You get a new one yet?

Thank you
I will definitely check out the links and keep up with this project as well as the others. It's good to see people at home can follow along and get tips, ideas and know how.

The tubular Kmbr, C/C plates, coil overs are all in along with the steering shaft and hardware ( longer bolt kit). The shortened Fox length axles from North Race cars, rear U/L and coilovers are in as well with the new rearend. Engine which is a low mile stocker with headers should be going in this weekend. I am sure I will get to 10 posts by the end of the weekend and have some pics of the progress for everyone with some before and after.

I am particularly interested in the water pump install but don't know if it's practical or worth it on a stock 5.0, plus the pro's and con's. Also a heads, cam and intake package that works together and best bang for the buck with nice street manners.

Thanks again, great website, keep up the good work.

Our Meziere electrical pump was worth it. Our 666 project car has a stock 5.0 in it, but I am glad that we upgraded the cooling. I'm not a big fan of the Stock Ford Cooling system, especially if you plan on road racing! I've always felt that the cooling system needed to keep the motor as cool as it could. Yeah, I know that the oil needs to be a certain temp for peak efficiency but the cooler you can keep the cylinders and top end, the better and longer the motor will run.

For my money, upgrading cooling is higher on the priority list. The other engine performance upgrades will catch up to your cooling upgrade soon enough.

Cool
thanks for the info, that helped me make a decision. New alum radiator, dual electric fans and new water pump set up before any motor mods.
