The NMRA officials have been hard at work with improving their busy schedule. The schedule already traverses the east coast and all throughout the Midwest. There has been a lack of races in the southwest and the fans have spoken to bring the NMRA back to Texas, with the lack of the Fun Ford Races since its demise earlier this year. The NMRA has listened, and with the help of Houston Raceway Park, they have been able to schedule a race for later this year. The Lonestar shootout has been scheduled for the weekend of November 13-15, 2009.

With a hot bed of Mustang and Ford Racing being based in the state of Texas, it should surely draw a large amount of cars. Mike Murillo is one of those Texas based racers and he will be prepared to take on whomever decides to come and run with the big boys in Pro Outlaw 10.5. Could we see some of the locals make their bid at the NMRA? There is plenty of heads-up action in the area and should really add to the overall success of the NMRA’s return to Texas.
Here is the official release from the NMRA.
ProMedia and Houston Raceway Park are happy to announce the return of All Ford Drag Racing to Texas the weekend of November 13-15, at Houston Raceway Park. The Inaugural Lone Star Shootout will help fill the void for Ford Drag Racing enthusiasts who have yet to see an all-Ford event this year in the Lone Star State.
The Angel family, owners of Houston Raceway Park, and officials of the NMRA Keystone Automotive Ford Nationals Series recently agreed to host this special post-season exhibition race, bringing Ford drag racing back to a hotbed for heads-up doorslammer action.
Charlie Harmon, President/Executive Director of the NMRA said, "It became obvious that there was a tremendous void in the Ford marketplace for this region of the country. We are very proud to be in a position in these times of economic hardship to expand and do our part to fill that void for all of the Ford enthusiasts in this region. However, this could not have been possible without the support and cooperation of the Angel family, who also recognized the need to continue to offer a first class Ford event to all of the loyal enthusiast and supporters in the area."
Evan Smith, editor of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine, hopes the Lone Star Shootout will become a sister event of the Spring Break Shootout held each year in Bradenton, Florida which draws top Ford and Mustang street cars from all over the eastern United States. “We are aware that there are many others in the western region of the U.S. that are unable to make the long haul to Florida due to the distance. We are very excited about the opportunity to feature a class that is accessible to a new and amazing group of vehicles in a different part of the country,” Smith stated.
Specific details of this event will be released next week
