Friday Moring Update
Here in sunny and cool Chicago the pits are packed with cars and vendors! There are heads up card parked a half mile from the starting with so many cars in the pits. Looks like this Super Bowl will bigger then last years. Cars are already going down the track in the first test session and first round of qualifying will be at 3 pm central time.

Even though tech worked most of the day yesterday they still have a back log of cars to get finished.

Brad Medlock and John Kolivas are here running Super Street Outlaw with there Mickey Thompson radials on and smaller turbos. Sounds like there was an issue with the radials they showed up on so they are working on getting some 275 radials mounted up now.

Both of the Bridge Racing Mustang have made the trip to Joliet. Sonny Biggs will be racing the white Mustang and Marvin Bridge will be driving the red Stang. Rumor has it that Marvin has been bitten by the racing bug and Joey may have lost his drivers seat. Joey is still stuck in Australia for now. Let’s hope the guys can put another car together and Marvin and Joey will have a 2 car father and son team.

Bruce is here in his Real Street car and everything under the hood still looks the same. But the word is he will have a modular supercharged combo coming very soon.

The Modular Depot crew is here in full force with FS, PS, RS and SSO class cars along with their dyno and parts.

Amy Sherwin is here making her return to Pure Street racing.

Hank Hill is over making some clutch adjustments on Dewayne James Pro 10.5 car. Dewayne sold his SSO car and is focusing on Pro 10.5 now.

Updates From Testing
Just a quick update on some of the passes from test and tune.

Urist runs 4.88 in the 1/8 mile and lets off.
Bruce Hemminger runs a 9.52 on his test hit.
Mike Demayo cards a 8.75 at 153.

Chris Tuten thought he would run his first 7.3 this weekend. After looking at the borrameter he is not so sure it will happen today.

Ben Mens 8.64 at 156
Vinny Barber 8.48
Amy Sherwin 10.70

Jason Lee is undefeated so far this year in Drag Radial and hopes to keep it that way. Jason runs a 8.68 letting off on his test pass.

First Round is Starting
We had a little rain delay during the test and tune which has delayed qualifying a bit. The clouds have broken up and the weather is a little chilly with a tail wind. Factory Stock has been called to the lanes. Look for updates before round two of qualifying starts. Most racers were not making full passes and the only thing notable was Charlie Booze running an 8.76 at only 139 since the last update.

Brad Medlock is running on the 28 x 10.5’s and not the radials.

Doug Sikora goes to number one with 6.71 in Pro Outlaw. A lot of the Pro Outlaw cars did not make full passes including Millen who backed his car out after his burnout.

Kolivas shows everyone how to do it on the 275 radial going 7.39 to be number 2 in SSO only trailing Urist who ran a 7.38 The 7.39 is the new fastest pass on a 275 radial by almost 2 tenths.

Racing has been called for the night with the falling temps and the curfew.

First Round Pit Notes
Doug Sikora came out and laid down a 6.71 in the first round of qualifying but the pass did not stand. Doug runs in the PSCA on the west coast and they do not have the same fuel restrictions that the NMRA does. He thought he had all the fuel drained but after the pass he did not pass the fuel check. Doug was searching the pits looking for more fuel so he could flush the fuel system more and have enough to finish the race.

Mike Murrillo and crew were not too upset that the second round of qualifying was canceled. In their qualifying pass they broke the torque converter and the rear end. They were lucky enough to have just bought spare parts just for the race. Here is a shot of Bill Buck working on the rear end.

Tim Huspen tried to put some power to the track in qualifying in his SSO ride. He converter did not like the extra power and died. Tim had located 2 racers willing to loan him their backup converters. Tim was still deciding which one to use.

There was a lot of frustration in the Tuten brother pit area. Both cars are fighting gremlins. Chris thought his car was set to run in the 30’s when his car shut off. Brain is trying to keep his engine from eating itself. Chris's car should be fine for tomorrow but not so sure about Brian's.

Dewayne James had trouble getting down the track again with their new clutch setup. They did some testing but it was in 9000 foot air and with the extra power they are making now the clutch is off. They feel they are getting close to hitting the set up.

Brad Medlock got his tire issues squared away by putting the 28 x 10.5’s on but still could not make a full pass. Each time down the track he would blow an intake tube off, he vowed that it would not come off on the next pass. The car should fly if they can keep the intake tube on.

Saturday Morning Update
Back at Rt. 66 raceway and round number two and final round of qualifying is under way now. The weather is a cool 60 degrees now with a high of 68 so the weather should be good for more record performances. We will have more updates and results after this round is complete.
