Final Qualifying Notes
Factory Stock is as tight as it has been in a while with the top 6 cars running in the 11.30’s or faster. Several of the cars are stepping up like Jay Dold and John Leslie running in the mid 11.20’s.

After the final qualifying pass Mark Anderson is still at the top of Pure Street but Teddy Weaver stepped up to number 2 with a 10.25. Ryan Hecox is still having trouble making a full pass and stays in the final qualifying spot.

Renegade had a pretty good shake up for this race with Alton Clements breaking the record with an 8.380 and Chris VanGilder was right beside him with his own 8.383. Rich Groh is making his return to Renegade action for the first time in a while and Bob Cook made his first race back after winning the championship.

Jason Lees is undefeated for 2009 but is only number qualifier for Drag Radial trailing Dave Guy and Sean Lyon. Dave and Sean both ran in the sevens today with Sean resetting the record with a 7.96 and just needs to back it up. It is also a tight field with the top five cars in the 8.teens or quicker.

SSO has been turned on its ear by John Kolivas running on 275 MT drag radials. John set the SSO and the fastest on a 275 record in the final qualifying pass with a 7.36 at 194. John Urist is a close second with a 7.388 with McDonald and Tuten close behind in the 7.40’s.

Pit Notes After Final Qualifying
Renegade racer Mike Catapano had a bad start and a quick end to his racing weekend. Coming out of the burnout box on his first pass of the weekend two rods let go and went through the block and ended up on the track along with all the oil. It looks like Mike will be down for a little while before making it back out.

Drag Radial racer Ken Ewer has been working through some issues and thought he was going to make a good pass, but the car went up on the bumper. The just had to fix some wiring and replace some sensors to make the first round. They are qualified in the number 5 spot with an 8.18.

Radial racer Matt Bell’s weekend has ended. He was on a great pass when a rocker arm broke, the valve dropped, hit the piston and caused more carnage from there at about 900 foot out. Matt still ran an 8.21 on that pass.

Ryan Hecox has not been able to make a full pass so far this weekend. When I made it by their pits that are about a half mile from the tower, they were changing a transmission. Hopefully this will fix their problems and they will be ready for first round.

Rich Groh is making a return back to Renegade with his first pas Saturday morning. He had just changed a transmission and thought they may have not got it completely full. They are adding more trans fluid and hope to make a better hit in the first round of eliminations.

More After Qualifying News from the Pits

Don Burton hasn't made a pass all weekend with a best pass of a 7.65 @ 158 mph. Unfortunately, concluding his qualifying two pass, the engine let go. A rod broke and the mixture of fluids ensued. Don said the parts in the engine is not that old and since eliminations starts today, he will not have time to repair it by first round.

Dan Rawls had a bit of a scare. As the crew came back to the pit, they noticed that an excessive amount of oil was pushing out their catch tank. They pulled the heads off the Renegade Mustang to find there was nothing wrong, so on back they went. Rawls sits in fourth with a 8.584 @ 160.12 mph.
