NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl 2008 Sunday Coverage
Back at the track with beautiful weather and we expect it to last all day. A couple of the larger classes will begin running a round around 9:30. The starting ceremonies with Vic Edelbrock at 11:30 followed up by more eliminations. We got the word on the final car counts with NMRA having just over 170 cars. A total of over 400 cars have made it through the gates, which makes this event bigger then last year.

Semi Final Round
In the final of Super Street Outlaw Sam Vincent took out Richard Leslz with a 7.51. Richard’s car was hurt and just idled down the track. In the other semi final Urist cuts a perfect light and runs a 7.53 to take out Halfacre.

Brian Tuten runs an 8.61, which is his best pass of the weekend to take out Gerovlo to advance to the final. On the other side of the ladder Bob Cook took out his own car driven by Scot Lovell. Bob ran an 8.72 to Scott's 8.92, but Scott cut a light to make it very close on the top end.

In Drag Radial Joe Bridge smoked the tires on his bye run and he will meet Tony Akins. Akins took out Matt Bell with an 8.25 at 171 mph. Joey is in the final for the second NMRA race in a row.

The semi final in Real Street was very strange. Matherly left early and gave the win to Hemminger. Bruce’s car never left the starting line but still gets the win. Jim Breese did a burn out and staged the car like he was going to make a pass after having trouble in the last round. But Jim backed out of the beams also. Both cars were able to drive off, so we hope they will be able to make a pass in the finals.

The final is Pure Street is becoming a habit. Hecox’s 10.40 took out Mason’s 10.41. And Hecox will face Alsept in the final again. Alsept just took the light and backed out.

Amrine gets a bye into his first final of Factory Stock. Sylvester spun and had nothing for Tommy Godfrey’s 11.28. The 11.28 is by far the fastest pass this weekend.

Pit Notes
Mike Trimandilis in his Super Street Mustang has been scratching his head all weekend. They think that a problem lies somewhere in the blower so they are swapping it out for an identical one.

A small speed bump for Joey Bridge. Its been a long weekend as they have swapped out 4 converters. They hit the speed bump when they found fluid leaking on the track. They ended up tracing it to a loose bolt from swapping all of those converters out.

Finals
Matt Amrine takes down his first win with the NMRA. Matt took out the current Factory Stock champ on a hole shot. Matt ran an 11.40 to Tommy Godfrey’s 11.36.

Brandon Alsept takes out the number one qualifier in the finals of Pure Street. Brandon ran a 10.28 and Hecox had a red light on his 10.39 pass.

For the second round in a row Bruce Hemminger takes a win in Real Street when his car died on the starting line. First Matherly turned on the red light in the semi finals and then Breese turned it on in the finals to give Bruce the win.

Charlie Booze out ran Robbie Blankenship in the Hot Street final. Charlie ran an 8.83 to Robbie’s 8.95.

Brian Tuten earned his first EFI Renegade win coming from the number 16 qualifying position. Brian took out Bob Cook in the final with an 8.62 to Bob’s 8.86. Bob got side ways about 1000 foot out.

Tony Akin was another first time winner. Tony took out Joey Bridge in the finals of Drag Radial. Tony ran an 8.26 to Joey’s 8.32.

In the finals of Super Street Outlaw, John Urist ran a 7.53 to take out Sam Vincent. Sam made it to the finals in his first NMRA race this year.

In the Pro Outlaw finals Ron Lummus took on undefeated Conrad Scarry. Ron lost a transmission line about 300 feet out and headed towards the wall and then the centerline. Scarry had his own troubles in his car. Ron was able to keep it off the wall and kept it from crossing the centerline for the win. Lummus ran a 9.59 to Conrad’s 11.36.
