NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl 2008 Friday Coverage
We finally made it to the race track here in Joliet after getting stuck in traffic for 45 min. A large box truck tried to straddle a guard rail and they brought in a crane to life it off since he drove about 200 feet like that. The weather is great now and we are hoping the weatherman is incorrect for tomorrow and Sunday! Round one qualifying has begun and the staging lanes are still filling up with cars from 22 classes. Check back here for race coverage through out the day. The Motive Gear gorillas are making their appearance.

Cars are lined up for round one.

The pits are full of motor coaches and trailers.

Notes From the Pits
They have a dyno up and running on the property.

Scott Lovell is in a new ride for the weekend. Bob Cook’s car has just been sitting around since he is driving the Sutton HP car in Renegade. They had Sticker Dude wrap the car with a killer new graphic. Bob tells me they should make the rest of the races with the exception of Atco.

Super Street Outlaw racer Sam Vincent has not been happy with the rules since the mid-season changes last year. Sam suffered severe engine damage around this time last year and has not been out since. Even after Sam’s rant about the rules he surprised everyone and showed up to the Super Bowl. He pulled the parachute early on his 8.18 run.

As reported earlier Chris Tuten is here in Joliet with a bigger turbo, slicks and a new front bumper cover to do battle in Super Street Outlaw.

The Johnson family has shown up with both drag radial cars. This is the only father son team that both race in the NMRA that I know of.

The photo below was taken at around 1600 feet and I am looking away from the tower. That should give you an idea how many cars are here. I heard something about over 400 cars being here for the weekend.

If you don’t have any work between rounds or there is some down time just step up to play the bean bag toss in the pits.

In the pits after first round Shawn Johnson had the motor out of his car. Looks like a lot of work to change the valve springs. He is racing in Pure Street again this weekend.

Ryan Hecox was pulling the transmission out of his Pure Street car for what they said was maintenance.

George Seeger has made it out but seen to be having suspension troubles. They were making adjustments when I walked by.

Mark and Ron Anderson were making carburetor changed between the rounds on their Pure Street car.

Jason Lee ripped the torque boxes out of his Drag Radial Mustang last weekend. He had the torque boxed replaced at midnight on Wednesday. Then all he had to do was change the engine and transmission and fix an intercooler before heading down here Thursday. Jason is trying to get the suspension dialed in after all the changes.

The track crew worked quickly to get the surface dry and we got back under way.
Here is the rest of second round.

They had to clean the water out of the Zac Posey and Tony Akin pits after the rain stopped.

Mike Smith use to race all the NMRA races but has been on a break for a while. He has made it out to the Super Bowl with his Procharger powered Mike Duffy chassis car.

John Kolivas is another one hit with some weight from the midseason rule changes. Instead of adding the extra weight he dropped down to the 85mm turbo. John is still thinking about putting the pushrod motor back in the car.

Enzo Pecchini is back out in drag radial for the first time since his crash. I heard they had this car built in 6 weeks.

Chris Tuten was unable to make the second round due to lost oil pressure. He had the oil pan and main caps off but planned on having it back together for eliminations.

Joey Bridge did not want to add the extra weight to his car so they put the smaller 85 mm turbo on. After first round they changed converters trying to find some more ET. They did not find it so they were changing converters again after the second round.

Jimmy Dahl appeared to be having transmission trouble. When I went by he was raising a new tranny in.

Brian Tuten is having trouble with water seeping into the cylinders. He had it all alpart trying to find where the water was coming from.

Mike Washington was having issues with his rear end gear. It looks like they will have it back together in time for Saturday morning.

Mike Dezotell is racing in Super Street Outlaw for the first time. They are sneaking up on the tune and are improving each pass. They had issues after their first 7 second pass.
