Clear skies and unseasonably cool air have greeted the collection of NMRA competitors here at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, OH. Test and Tune is set to kick off here at 11 EST, followed by the days lone qualifying session at 3 PM. 
Racers are unloading their mounts and getting everything buttoned up and ready for today's action. Here, Enzo Pecchini packs the parachute on his Drag Radial ride. Many of the racers have expressed concern over the preparation of the track this weekend, and are quite reserved in their hopes for strong numbers in due part, despite the cool, fast air. In addition, it was mentioned by a couple of the competitors that there may be some slight water seepage on the big end, which could create havoc for the high-horsepower cars of the NMRA. 
Factory Stock racer Luis Sylvester checks the tire pressure on a new site of radials prior to the mornings' Test and Tune session. 
Fresh off his win at the last NMRA event at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, Super Street Outlaw racer John McDonald is here in Columbus looking to follow that performance up with another trip to victory lane. Johnny Mac said a broken wrist pin was the cause for his eventful pass in that final round, sending a rod through the block and breaking several valves and pushrods in the process. 
The Nitto Tire team of John Urist make some final preparations before this mornings Test and Tune session. The team stated that the air is there for great numbers, but the uncertainty in the condition of the track will be the determining factor.

| | Testing Update 
Dan Millen has gotten a handle on the tricky track conditions in testing, posting a shutoff 7.749 @ 127.35 after a strong wheels-up charge. 
Dave Guy annihilated the tires right at the hit on his opening pass in testing, pedaling the car numerous times before reaching the 60' clocks and roasting the tires with each slap of the throttle. 
Pro Outlaw 10.5 competitor Jim Monson ran a shutoff 7.927 @ 135.20, leaving the line fairly soft but charging nice and straight through the middle of the quarter mile. "Less might be better this weekend," stated Monson in reference to the track conditions. 
Renegade racer Alton Clements laid down a solid 8.529 @ 161.42. 
Real Street racer Dave Ginter made a nice and clean 10.196 @ 136.47 MPH lap.  
Real Street racer Jim Pickel incurred damage to the drivetrain on his first lap during testing, and he and his crew are thrashing to replace a clutch disc and pressure plate for the first round of qualifying. 
John McDonald and crew are swapping out the supercharger on their potent Super Street Outlaw ride, reverting to their tried-and-true setup after trying out a new unit.

| | Qualifying Round 1 Notes
Round 1 of qualifying has wrapped up here in Columbus, with many racers finding the right combination for the track early, while others will be scratching their heads late into the evening. 
In Factory Stock, John Leslie Jr. leads the class into Saturday's qualifying, running a 11.436 @ 116.82 lap. 
Steve Gifford leads the Pure Street contingent on the heels of a solid 10.293 @ 121.30 run. 
Ryan Hecox and the JPC team are within striking distance of Gifford, running a respectable 10.348 @ 129.92 MPH. 
Bruce Hemminger heads up the pack in Real Street after the first round of qualifying, posting a 9.672 @ 139.17 MPH. 
In Drag Radial, zMax champion Dave Guy was able to get a handle on his stout combination, backing down the boost enough to get the car off the starting line to lead the class in qualifying, posting a soft 8.288 @ 177.67 MPH. 
In Hot Street, Don Bowles set the bar early in qualifying, posting an 8.879 @ 150.50 MPH lap. 
Robbie Blankenship fell from his normally dominating pace, sliding into the 4th spot in the order with a 8.959 @ 152.18 MPH. This team will certainly be looking to make a move on Saturday. 
In Renegade, Alton Clements paced the field with a strong, wheels-up charge to an 8.563 @ 159.38 MPH, putting nearly a tenth between himself and 2nd qualifier Brian Mitchell.  
In Super Street Outlaw, points leader John Urist again leads the class, topping the field with a hard-charging 7.421 @ 191.08 MPH, with only a slight wiggle as the traversed the quarter mile.
Dan Millen leads the Pro Outlaw 10.5 contingent into Saturday qualifying after finding the right combination to get his car off the starting line, launching with the wheels up to nearly the 60' mark on his way to 6.816 @ 206.10 MPH run, the only 6-second pass of the round. 
Conrad Scarry certainly got everyones attention on his lap, his car using up far more of the lane than he'd have liked just beyond the half track marker. Scarry stayed with it to grab the 3rd spot with a slowing 7.469 @ 149.75 MPH. |

Things are getting underway here at National Trail Raceway with bracket and index time trials taking to the track, and the action will steadily heat up as the heads-up classes will come to the line for their second qualifying session at 10:30 AM EST.  
Renegade racer Bart Tobener is thrashing to make an engine swap after hurting a piston in his primary engine yesterday. Bart plans to have the car ready for both of today's qualifying sessions. 
Hot Street's Ben Mens arrived in Columbus this morning after competing in the All Motor class at Milan Dragways' Heads Up Series on friday night.

In Factory Stock, John Leslie Jr., the incoming provisional top qualifier, stunned the rest of the class by picking up nearly .2 and distancing himself nearly that same amount from his nearest competitor, running an astounding 11.263 @ 117.75 MPH. 
Bruce Hemminger, who came into the 2nd session as the top qualifier in Real Street, launched with the wheels way up and missed second gear in the process, quickly slamming the nose back to earth. Bruce shut the car down and pulled to the side to check the oil pan for damage, but an inspection of the car turned up positive and he'll be back for the final session this afternoon.
As most expected, Robbie Blankenship moved up the charts by way of an 8.850 @ 151.54 that places him second, but it wasn't enough to top pole sitter Don Bowles' 8.831 @ 151.36 pass to solidify his position. 
Dan Rawls made a move up the Drag Radial ladder this morning as well, finding a tenth from yesterday to run an 8.628 @ 159.76 MPH to slide into number two slot.

In the final round of qualifying, Dan Millen and Conrad Scarry saved their best for last, duking it out for the top spot with near identical elapsed times. Millen laid down a 6.801 2 211.03 MPH, to edge out Scarry, who was finally able to keep his mount nice and straight to into the second slot at 6.807 @ 223.14. Keep an eye on these two, as they could well battle it out tomorrow afternoon for the Pro Outlaw 10.5 crown here at Columbus. 
John Urist again showed why he is undoubtedly the class of the field in Super Street Outlaw, running a stout 7.392 @ 192.33 MPH to stretch the gap over the rest of the field. zMax winner John McDonald is within striking distance with a 7.442, as these two are certainly the favorites heading into tomorrow's eliminations. 
The top two qualifiers in Renegade faced off in the final session, both stepping up but retaining their positions, Clements running a great 8.509 @ 161.71 MPH to Rawls' 8.538 @ 161.13 MPH. Other movers in the class included Larry Hourcle at 8.589 to place third, and Chad Almandingers' 8.617 for the fourth spot. 
In Hot Street, Robbie Blankenship moved up the charts once again, this time edging Don Bowles and going straight to the top after a strong 8.761 @ 152.87 MPH lap. 
After missing the first qualifying session and having problems right off the starting line in this mornings second session, Ben Mens put himself into a fine position heading into raceday tomorrow, grabbing the third spot with a wheels-up 8.844 @ 152.83 MPH. 
Dave Guy has steadily gotten a better handle on the track in each session, and maintained his spot atop the qualifying sheets in Drag Radial on the heels of an 8.198 @ 179.11 MPH lap. Guy needed every bit of his elapsed time, as Enzo Pecchini stepped up over .4 from his previous efforts to grab the second slot with a stout 8.219 @ 175.23 MPH. 
Jason Lee also moved way up the ladder in the final session after struggling all weekend, moving from seventh position up to third with a 8.308 @ 171.66 to remain within striking distance of the leaders heading into raceday. 
In Pure Street, Mark Anderson, who didn't arrive at National Trail Raceway until this morning, struggled in the second session this morning but made his final shot count, jumping from the bottom of the order all the way to the top with a 10.218 @ 129.65 MPH pass. 
John Leslie Jr. held onto his spot atop the order in Factory Stock with his 11.263 @ 117.75 from the earlier second session to keep his championship hopes alive this weekend as we enter raceday tomorrow. Leslie got some company at the top in the final session, as Matt Amrine and Louis Sylvester stepped up into the 30's, 11.329 and 11.379, respectively.
