The pits were busy after round 1 with several teams thrashing in preparation for the #2 qualifying session.

Robbie Blankenship is not happy with the performance of his Hot Street car after putting in the motor they just got back from overhaul earlier today. The teams changing valve springs tonight looking for a few more hundredths to hunt down Mr. Booze with. Robbie's currently qualified #3 with an 8.933, just .06 behind Charlie.

Bret Wetson is chasin' the set up in EFI Renegade. The team was found scaling the car near his trailer to find more et. He's qualified #10 with a 9.038, well off the #1 qualifying pace at 8.646.

Bob Cooks crew was found thrashing on the transmission in their EFI Renegade mount. The car launched hard and cam abruptly to a stop. With only 275 points between him and the #2 man in the class, Brian Mitchell, every round counts! Mitchell is currently well qualified in the #2 position with an 8.77. No pressure Bob...

Canadian Enzio Pecchini was also found making a change in the "bell housing" of his Drag Radial entry. The car just doesn't like the new Neal Chance converter they put in prior to this race. Their faithful TCI will come off the bench for round 2 tomorrow.

Dan Millen, fresh off his $20,000 win in Canada 2 weeks ago against Spiro Pappas ran an off beat 7.12 in the first round, leaving the guys scratchin' there head on what to do next? The Pro Outlaw 10.5 car ran consistent high 6.80's and low 6.90's last week at the NMCA race in Milan. It has the power, just a matter of finding that ever elusive setup for the hot track conditions this weekend at National Trails Raceway in Columbus Ohio.

Oh, almost forgot! I stopped by the Kolivas Drag Radial pits to check on the rumor we reported on earlier. I spoke with the team manager since John was out huntin' parts. I told them about the rumor we'd heard about this being John's last race. They said he'd be in Bowling Green for the finals for certain. But as far as next year goes, it does appear he will step back from the chase... at least that's what his crew is hoping for. They said he'll make a few races in 2009, when he can, just to keep folks on their toes. Developing...
There's been no sightings of a certain "yellow" car in Super Street Outlaw... hhmmm...
As I'm sitting in the pits putting the finishing touches on my day 1 report, the heavens have opened up producing an Oklahoma gully washer of a rain storm. Complete with lightening and thunder! I'm thinking we should start collecting animals 2 by 2... :-)
