Friday Morning at the Finals
A big rain storm moved in through the early morning which soaked everything. Bowling Green's track can be tricky to dry as the water likes to gather near the stripe. They are still prepping the track here though it won't be too much longer. Each racer will get one Test and Tune pass before moving into qualifying round one at a scheduled 3 PM today. Stay tuned as we bring some morning pit rumors.

I love the old, wooden stadium seats here.

Super Street Outlaw News
Overall, there is been a bit of turbo controversy in the class. When the wheels were being measured from tip to tip, they were running into some turbos that had curved ends on the tips of the compressor wheel and they weren't a true measurement. Also, this looks like the last race drag radials will be allowed in SSO, keeping it the true "10.5" tire freak show"

Joel Greathouse is driving John Kolivas' SSO entry. The twin turbo combination that he has for outlaw racing has been converted back to the single turbo version that he ran so fast with in Joliet. John says he is done with quarter mile racing and will stick to the eighth. Joel is testing the car for Shakedown at E-town in two weeks, where the car will go back to twin turbos.

AJ Powell has gone back to the chassis he knows, his SSO Mustang. The team damaged a lot of engines in their Pro Outlaw 10.5 car and this engine is pieced together from their first season with a new block and crank. There is even year old 10.5s going on the car. They put together the car last Saturday and fired it on Wednesday with no testing since. AJ is trying to get some runs on the car and display that it is for sale (sign on passenger fender) so he can afford some engines for next year.

Johnny Mac is still in the hunt for the SSO championship.... barely. The way it looks, Urist would have to go out first round and MacDonald would have to win the race. They are still using the repaired engine from the zMax wrist pin explosion that tore up a lot of parts, though he plans a fresh build in the off season.

For Sam Vincent's new combination, we still haven't seen him roll through the gates today.

Real Street News

Tim Matherly won the title this weekend by simply showing up for the race today, putting the number one back on his car for the 2010 season. Last year it came down to this race to determine who won the championship between Matherly and Hemminger, where Matherly also had to do a complete engine change. Bruce is going to race as much as he can afford to next year. As for the modular motor, it might be Joliet next year before we see it. Bruce wants the engine to be tuned to perfection on the engine dyno before he shows up to a race with it.

Some Test and Tune Notes
Not a whole lot exciting going on during testing so far. Most cars are taking the long way down the track as it is still a little green after the clean up from the rain.

Robbie Blankenship made one of the few, almost full track passes we witnessed with a lifting 8.910 @ 124.36 mph.

Dan Rawls sounded like the car was having problems with his nitrous kit on his Renegade fox body. The car was heavily surging as it made its way past the 330-foot marker and then shortly after lifted.

Mark Anderson didn't give us his normal wheels up launch in his Pure Street entry. Unsure if Mark left soft on purpose, or if the car was hesitating off the line. Either way, the pass was aborted.

Bob Cook's Wheel Stand
Last year's Renegade champion Bob Cook has only been to a couple of races this year due to work. Bob pulled the wheels sky high on his first pass of the weekend, which shows that this track is hooking. The catch came open as Bob put the fox body on the bumper for a nice wheel stand sequence.

More Test and Tune Notes

Johnny Mac put it on the wheelie bars and then back down pretty hard on his test hit, aborting the rest of his run.

Jarrett Halfacre is back for his first race since his suspension for allegedly running nitrous as a second power adder on his Super Street Outlaw Mustang. Though forced induction is not Jarrett's power adder anymore, he has switched to nitrous.......

Most other runs for the session were eighth mile hits, though that will all change as we are starting to run the first index classes for qualifying round one.

Qualifying Round 1 Highlights

Dan Millen had a hairy ride mid track as the car violently shot towards the center lane, hitting a cone and voiding his run. Dan attributes the problem with an aggressive clutch setup, though he said that the starting line was amazing during the night time qualifier.

Keith Neal managed the only 6 second pass of the round with a 6.911 @ 207.43 mph.

Super Street Outlaw has an impressive 13 car field where we were all shocked with Chris Tutens number one qualifying attempt with a 7.429 @ 192.55 mph. Class champ John Urist had an unusual 150 foot wheel spin and we are happy to report that Sam Vincent is here with his new combination, sitting in the fifth spot with a 7.795 @ 140.24 mph.

Larry Hourcle snatched the Renegade record from current points leader Dan Rawls with 8.325 @ 162.67 mph. Unfortunately we didn't get a shot of Larry since he was in the opposite lane of what we were shooting. Class points leader Dan Rawls sits in second with a 8.546 @ 159.76 mph.

Sean Lyon has been on a tare all year as he has found the solution to getting his power to the ground. Sean sits in the number one spot in Drag Radial with a 8.066 @ 176.07 mph. The team was swapping out turbos since the ball bearings were overdue for a swap out. If Sean does well this weekend, he can squeak away with the third spot in the Drag Radial championship

Charlie Booze sits in first in Hot Street currently with a 8.639 @ 156.55 mph. Brian Booze, 2002 Hot Street champion and Charlie's brother, currently sits in the seventh spot.

Bruce Hemminger in Real Street, still on his push rod combination, beat his own record with a 9.555 @ 140.11 mph. Sitting close behind him with another respectable run with a 9.616 @ 142.69 mph is Jim Breese.

Shawn Johnson sits in the first spot in Pure Street with a 10.240 @ 131.81 mph. Sitting close in second is Steve Gifford with a 10.250 @ 131.91 mph. Eric Burkhart had a nice wheel stand past us and ended up in the number eight spot.

Tommy Godfrey continues his tare in Factory Stock with a 11.195 @ 118.99 mph. Tommy has the Factory Stock championship locked up and will keep the number one for the 2010 year.
