The complete Friday Photo Gallery is now posted online.

Click here to check out the entire Friday Photo Gallery.

This includes plenty of pictures of Dan Millen's fresh wrap on his Outlaw 10.5W car. There seems to be a great amount of speculation about whether this is a brand new car, his old-car just totally freshened, or a combination in between. On Yellowbullet, controversy is erupting about whether this car has a carbon fiber roof- and whether that is legal within NMRA rules.

Saturday Coverage: Morning Update
Good morning from Atco once again here on Saturday morning. The weather is once again starting out overcast but looks as if it is clearing out. The pits are scurrying with action as teams prepare for the second qualifier. Action is getting started around 9:30 with the bracket racing and will follow with heads up action later today. Once again thanks to SCT Performance for making all of our coverage possible. Visit them at sctflash.com

Saturday Coverage
From the pits:

I headed to the pits to catch up on some happenings from last night in the first round of qualifying. There were some big names that had some issues but it appears that most will be back today to make round two later on today.

Mike Murillo made the long trip from Texas in his SCT sponsored Mustang but in round one of qualifying he experienced some transmission issues which wouldn’t allow him to back the car up after the burnout. There also was a leak on the transmission from a missing drain plug which ultimately was the cause. The repair has been made and the team continues to prepare the car for today’s qualifying sessions. Mike will have to run faster than Keith Neal to take the number one spot.

Another car I had heard a lot about is Scott Anderson and Steve Thompson’s 1988 Mustang that was built by HFR Fabrication for NMRA Drag Radial competition. The completion had been delayed but the wait was worth it because the end product is absolutely beautiful. Steve does the driving duties as they came here this weekend untested and made two hits yesterday trying to dial the car in. The duo is the only nitrous drag radial car in attendance and hopefully with the 400 cubic inch small block equipped with Nitrous Pro Flow foggers can run with the best in the class. The old car that they used to campaign ran as fast as 8.20’s with a similar combination, The new car comes in at a few hundred pounds lighter which should help them find the seven second zone by years end.

Renegade race Chris Van Gilder went for a wild ride in his Vortech supercharger convertible in qualifying last night. I stopped by his pits to see if there was any damage from the wheelie. Business appears to be as usual with no damage other than some scrapes to the headers from several contacts with the track during the run.

Round two updates to follow

Round two was called and the lanes filled quickly as the call for Factory Stock was made. These guys really know how to make the most out of a combination as the limitations are the insurmountable odd in the class. There are several class favorites in attendance. Top qualifier Tommy Godfrey would sit this round out as he is qualified with a 11.02@121mph but that would not stop the rest of the class from trying to catch up.

John Leslie Jr. is one of those working at pushing his combination just that much further to be in the number one spot. He was number two in the world last season and it shows why as he is qualified second here and would maintain that position due to his 11.26@119mph run last night. Leslie backed his run up with a 11.28@119mph in round two.

Steve Gifford wheeled his Modulat Depot SN-95 to the number one spot in Pure Street and bettered his time by nearly eight hundreths to mark his spot with a 10.22@133mph. One of the best looking cars of the weekend who continues to put on a great show with great driving skills as he rides out wheelstands is Jimmy Wilson. Wilson's run last night was disqualified but he ran stellar 10.34@131mph to place him solidly in the number two spot.

Dave Ginter will get the most improved award in the Real Street ranks as he remains in the number three spot but with a much better 9.83@139mph. It remain the Tim Matherly show though as he continues to show how dominant he can be by holding onto his top qualifier effort from round one. Matherly ran 9.56@140mph last night in the cool air.

More Round Two Updates

Drag Radial may be one of the most anticipated classes on the grounds and it is easy to see why. Jason Lee went low elapsed time last night but it would be Ken Ewer stealing the round two spotlight as he went low for the round and possibly the fastest pass ever on the car. His 8.27@167mph would place him in the number two spot. The beautiful convertible of Orson Johnson also made a real nice pass of 8.39@173 nearly topping Lee's top mph from last night.

Hot Street may have its name changed to the "Robbie Blankenship Show" as he continues to run in the front of the field. Robbie took the top spot honors last night under the lights and has not looked back. His 8.64@155mph has the competition stirring for the right combination to catch him. One of those is Don Bowles in his Maverick. Bowles really has a handle on the car now and it leaves hard and straight on every pass. Bowles flexed his muscle in round two showing he can run right with Blankenship in the heat. Bowles ran a 8.727@153mph to Robbie's 8.721@155mph.

Next to roll through the water was EFI Renegade and the band of wheelstanding warriors that make up this class. Chris Van Gilder has been the highlight of the class so far with a huge wheelstand that continued bouncing well past 330 feet in last nights session. Wheelstands will not get you the number one spot and that is why Larry Hourcle is out front in his hatchback as he backed up his number one effort with a 8.55@161mph. Van Gilder managed to keep the front end down and make it in the show with a solid 8.57@159mph to put him number four.

John Urist just will not relenquish his strangle hold on Super Street Outlaw as he continues to run fast and consistent throughout qualifying. At this time there are only four cars in competition but with the likes of Aberdeen, Maryland's Don Burton anything is possible. Burton traversed the 1320 in winning fashion to move himself up to the number three spot. Burton's 7.56@186mph should make him a contender in tomorrow's eliminations.

Last up for round two is the big boys of the NMRA in Pro Outlaw 10.5. Texas native Mike Murillo made the trip and continues to battle his way down the track but is just off the pace as Dan Millen in his controvesial Mustang moved their way into the top spot with a 6.881@202mph. Keith Neal slowed off from his first run and now sits in the number two spot with a 6.99@210mph.

A nice update from NMRA on Saturday's highlights:

We're sitting here at the track watching the radar, and while we're stuck in the middle of a band of showers, it looks like it's going to be clearing out around 11AM, and we'll be able to get rolling into eliminations. We've got some tidbits from qualifying, so read on!

Chris VanGilder has really stepped up his DiabloSport EFI Renegade effort this year, as evidenced by this crazy bumper-dragging wheel stand from the third round of eliminations yesterday. He currently sits fourth on the ladder with an 8.57 pass at 159 miles per hour.

Yesterday there was some hot action in Edelbrock Hot Street. When Max Gross, driving Team Powerhead’s “Evil 89”, fired the car right before the burnout box, a fuel leak caused the car to erupt in flames. Luckily Max got out of the car without a singe on him. When we left last night they were working hard to get the car ready for eliminations, and the car is still in the trailer this morning, so as soon as the rain subsides, we hope to see them getting at it.

There’s just something about this guy – he’s never off his game. John Urist, four-time ProCharger Super Street Outlaw champion, is back on top of the heap this weekend. During Friday night’s qualifying session, he was the only racer to put up a big number during the session of cool air. Once the weather front rolls through today, we’re expecting 60-degree temperatures, so we’re curious to see if he can improve upon that in eliminations.

Turbonetics Pro Outlaw 10.5 star Dan Millen had his ’01 Mustang completely revamped at Skinny Kid Race Cars over the winter. The plan was to take a lot of the extra weight out of the car, to make the chassis more tunable and responsive to changes. Well, it must have worked, as Millen turned up the wick yesterday and qualified first in the field with a 6.88 at 202.21mph. Unfortunately, the car free-revved on the last qualifying pass and trashed the engine, so the team loaded up and was planning on heading home last night. We’re sure he’ll have it fixed in short order and be back for the next race.

After an incredibly stressful offseason, Dave Guy is here in his familiar red and white-striped hotrod. Dave decided he wanted to be a part of the madness in BFGoodrich Tires Drag Radial, so he built a brand-new combination centered around a GT47-88 turbocharger. Dave is running his familiar Modular engine, and running quite well. In only his eighth pass on the car, Dave managed to boost himself to a 8.53 at 175.32mph pass, giving him a solid seventh qualifying position. He's still sorting out the combination, obviously, and there's still a ton left in the car. We had the privilege of hanging out with him this past Wednesday night while he tested at Cecil County Raceway in Maryland, and he's quite optimistic about his chances in the class. We look forward to seeing him do well.

We know we told you all about Larry Hourcle yesterday, but we managed to catch him during some track cleanup time and got more information about it program. Larry ended the qualifying sessions atop the Diablosport EFI Renegade ladder, and did it with style – rolling on a 275mm-wide RADIAL tire to an 8.52 at 161.83mph. The tires are legal for competition, as they are well under the 28x10.5 go/no-go gauge used to measure the tire width. Now that’s impressive!

Partnered with George Seeger and Dave Guy, Jason Staub is the second “S” in SGS Automotive. He brought his Fox out to run in Steeda Open Comp, and ended qualifying yesterday at the top of the heap, taking the pole position with a .001-second reaction time. As a testament to the quality of the field here, the top five qualifiers in the class have all qualified with a .007 light or better.
