In the first round of the Real Street Shootout Hemminger faced McCormick. This race was almost a dead heat with McCormick taking the win. The more amazing fact is both cars ran quicker then the current record. Hemminger ran a 9.58 to McCormick’s quicker 9.57. Matherly holds the record with a 9.62. We will see if one of these guys can back it up this weekend.
Kolivas was not the only racer to make changes for this weekend. John hurt his mod motor and changed back to his old pushrod combo. Joey Bridge also made some changes looking for better ET’s in the heat. Joey added the 150 pounds to run the bigger 88mm turbo. It looked to pay off in testing with an 8.14, but Joey got a little loose on his qualifying pass. The Modular Depot crew changed Steve Gifford’s car over to the unported heads so they could drop the extra weight that was added to their combo. So far things look promising for these being the first passes on the combo.
Several cars were unable to make the first round of qualifying. Conrad Scarry showed up to the track with a wounded bullet. They were confident they could get it back together to make laps this weekend. A.J. Powell was another racer that did not make first round. After changing some things before coming to the track, they figured out those changes were not working. They were trying to get things changed back and will be ready for round number two. The Tuten brothers were two other racers that were surprisingly not at first round. The rumor in the pits was they had gone through 3 flat tires on the trailer on the way from South Carolina. Hope those guys can make it to the track safely in time for qualifying.
Justin Burcham decided he wanted to try racing something other then True Street this weekend. The JPC crew put together the car Tommy Godfrey was driving at the beginning of the year. He qualified number 4 but it appears he let out with a 108 mph.
It will be interesting to see how fast Justin can run and is he here just to help Tommy win back to back championships
The weather was nice until the rain came. But the rain made things even better. It only lasted long enough to cool the track off and brought in a cool breeze. We can only hope the conditions will be similar for the rest of the weekend.
To my frustration the internet connection was the worst happening thing of the day. After taking some photos in the pits I cam back to upload them and make a post and there was no internet connection. We are use to slow connections with everyone trying to use the same one, but it was gone. Then for the next 4 hours it would come and go just enough to not allow me to get much done. At the end of the day things seemed to be much better and I hope it continues for the weekend.
