As soon as the NHRA Unleashed initial announcement was made, we knew this was going to be something exciting. While the first announcement didn’t give us much in the way of details, it left us assured that NHRA was interested in producing their very own heads-up racing series. This would help give grassroots racers the chance to participate in an NHRA event. Well just this morning NHRA has released their official logo for this new series along with a few more updates.

We knew there would be some of the fastest door slammers participating here but official word has been released on what the exact classes will be:
Racing to the 1/8th mile line will be Outlaw 10.5, Limited street, and Modified Street, which should lure many racers from the ORSCA series as these are their premier classes and those racers are accustomed to 1/8 th mile racing. Running the full 1320 will be 8.5 index, 10.0 index, 11.0 index, 12.0 index and 13.0 index which will provide the playground for the true entry-level racer and bring us many unique cars and combinations. All class winners will receive the coveted Wally trophy. Rumor has it that Pro-Modified cars will also be there as an exhibition series to showcase the fastest door slammers in the country.
These events won’t be solely drag racing however, as the action off the track is set to be just exciting with a multitude of children’s activities, car shows, automotive seminars and even a large automotive swap meet where you’ll be able to find that elusive OEM 440-6 pack setup, or a set of those original mustang rallye wheels you’ve been searching for.
For those who may have missed it, the four race schedule is as follows:
• June 11-13: Atlanta Dragway, Atlanta
• Aug. 6-8: O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, Indianapolis
• Sept. 10-12: National Trail Raceway, Hebron, Ohio
• Nov. 5-7: Gainesville Raceway, Gainesville
While we still don’t know how the class rules will stack up they should be released soon. We do however know that the payouts look very promising - Outlaw 10.5 winner will go home with $5000 and the Limited street winner will take a hefty $4000 home. While the season opener nears closer, hopefully we will be filled in with the finalizing details so stay tuned for more updates, see you on the 1320 soon!
