Fun Ford was recently forced to announce that their Atlanta Event has been postponed until June 12-15, 2008.
That really sucks. And stinks, in our opinion. We don't know whose responsible for the late notice, but Fun Ford is going to take a major financial hit over such a late cancellation and if we were them, we wouldn't be too happy over how this was handled.
NHRA is a very classy organization that we have a lot of respect for, but we question how this issue was handled at least from the outside. That being said, we really don't know what happened other than speculation so the truth may be that everyone acted in 100% good faith.
The official press release read:
"NHRA's Atlanta Dragway has just announced unexpected and unavoidable track maintenance scheduled for April 10 - 13, 2008. Causing the Fun Ford Weekend, $20K Battle of the Brands event to be rescheduled for June 12-15, 2008. This decision comes directly from NHRA and could not be avoided.
We apologize for any an all inconvenience this will cause. We look forward to seeing everyone in Atlanta, June 12-15."
What we heard is that there is a separation between the transition from the concrete to the asphalt at half track. It's a 2-inch crack (or so we hear) and it needed to be repaired for the "big" NHRA event the week after Fun Ford.
Thus, Fun Ford got beat with the ugly stick so the Pro's can run on a great surface. Understandable, but we hope FFW got some financial consideration in the process.
