Mustangs Capture TWO Road Racing Titles!
As the racing season wraps up and teams go into hibernation for the winter, fans of Lee Iacocca’s Baby Boomer magnet have good reason to celebrate (beyond the groovy sequential tail lights of Ford’s latest pony car). This past weekend, Mustangs secured TWO road racing championships.

AutoBlog gives you plenty of details regarding how your favorite car secured the 2009 SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT Title and swept the Grand Am KONI Challenge.

2009 SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT

In only his second season, Brandon Davis maneuvered around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for a fourth-place finish, driving a brand-new 2010 ACS Mustang. Davis only needed to finish in eighth to guarantee the championship; the closest competitor ended up being a distant eighty-one points behind.

As a testament to Brandon’s skill, here’s what one of his competitors, James Sofronas, had to say about his performance: "It was pretty clear that Brandon didn't want to get in the way or become a part of any mistakes," Sofronas explained. "It was a calculated move on his part. He just left it open for me and I had to take it there. He knew he had to win a Championship and he showed that he had the maturity to get it done."

2009 Grand Am KONI Challenge

The Ford Mustang FR500C won a troika of distinctions for the Grand Am KONI Challenge - Ken Wilden claimed winning driver, while he and teammate Dean Martin captured the team title for Rehagen Racing; the manufacturer's championship sealed the deal. This was the first championship for both the drivers and the racing team.

The Rehagen team was not the only victorious team at the Bosch Engineering Octoberfest at Virginia International Raceway. JBS Motorsports’ Bret Seafuse and James Gue drove their Mustang to victory, giving Ford back-to-back manufacturer's titles.

All told, Mustangs won five races in the 2009 Grand Am KONI Challenge and finished on the podium in over 72% of the races.
