Mustang Bullitt vs. Dodge Challenger SRT8?
With the rebirth of the Challenger and the Camaro, everyone wants to line them up against our favorite Blue Oval, the Ford Mustang. Edmunds.com Inside Line recently took a 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt and matched it up against a Dodge Challenger SRT8.

The full article is here, and it's very well written, if a bit slanted. Now, from the beginning, this was far from a far fight in my opinion. The SRT8 is way more expensive than a Mustang Bullitt given vehicle availability, and is more of a good comparison against the Shelby or perhaps a Roush Mustang. It just doesn't line up well with a Challenger SRT selling for a street price of $56,000 and the Bullitt available for $23k less. The Shelby would have been a much more fair fight, but we know how that would have ended up.

Edmuds does say, "Be patient, wait for the price to come down." Hah. All of the SRT8's are sold out and I'm sure next year won't be much better. See the Shelby GT500 debacle for reference.

Here was the performance numbers that Edmund's released from their testing, "The Bullitt sprinted to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds (5.1 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip), while the Challenger made the trip in 5.1 seconds (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The quarter-mile arrived in 13.2 seconds at 107.5 mph. The Challenger is substantially quicker to 60 mph than the almost identical Charger SRT8, and we think the Challenger's optional Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires make the difference."

The Mustang ran a 13.7 in the quarter mile at 103 mph, about a half second slower than the Challenger. Now, that's what happens when you put 425 hp up against 315 hp.
