So it’s no secret that that 2010 Mustang is seriously outgunned in both the horsepower and displacement department. Ford’s 15 year old 4.6 mod motor makes just north of 300 horsepower, while its cross-town competitors of Chrysler and GM make at least 100 more in top form. Sure, Mustang has the GT500, but there is a major gap between the 540 horsepower of the GT500 and the 320 horsepower of the regular GT. Even the Camaro’s V6 makes almost as much horsepower as the GT’s 3v V8. So is this a picture of a Mustang mule, maybe even equipped with the much-lauded Boss 5.0?
According to one forum member from
StangNet, yes it is. We just can’t see all that much of it.

According to forum member GoDogGo, Ford uses his neck of the woods (Santa Monica, CA) to do a lot of car testing. He says that the mule pictured here has the rear end for a 2009 Mustang, but the front end uses modified 2010 body work. Among the modifications are an extra hood vent and a new front valance (neither of which we can see…). But these real evidence, according to GoDogGo, is the rumble, which he says is “Far deeper, far louder than a standard GT.”
Now, this could just as easily be a mule for a new GT500 or special edition Mustang. Maybe the Bullitt will make a comeback? Just hope and speculation right now, but as
Jalopnik recently reported, the Boss V8 might be dead in the water already.
With higher fuel economy standards implicated by the Obama administration, a new 400 horsepower V8 might not be such a wise move. Doubly so since the EcoBoost engines are only just now starting to show up on the street, and handily make 365 horsepower with a torque curve flatter than Bonneville. But it wasn't that long ago the Coyote 5.0 V8 showed up in the Mustang either. Would Ford shift gears this fast?
