Is this a full race car, or just a street car? The swap isn't difficult if you are planning on making it an off-highway car, but to make it a really clean "street car" I'm not sure why you wouldn't go with a Modular Engine.

You would need (at least).

• Bellhousing/Trans
• New K-member
• New ECU System w/hiring harness adapter
• Fuel pump

And probably much more. A 2-Valve V8 swap would be much easier. Now if this is a race car, it would be alot easier. Throw a carb on it and go!

the reason im wanting to use my 91 gt motor is because im putting a 351 windsor carbed motor in my fox and a new tranny. so i have the 5.0 motor and tranny on hand and thats why i think it would be cheaper to use it instead of buying a mod motor. plus i just think it would be cool to swap the old school 302 into her 02. and yes it will be a daily driver street car. plus im pretty familiar with the 302, and i know nothing about working on mod motors. hell the only fuel injected motor ive ever worked on is my 302.and it doesnt hurt that i already have the usual bolt ons on the 302.and personally i would rather have the stock 302 5.0 than the stock 2v modular motor, isn't the 302 a stronger motor? i dont know the exact output numbers on the two but just from my own experience i would much rather have the 302 5.0 motor. this is my wifes car and she just wants to bark back when getting haggled by other gts and cobras. dont even suggest pumping up that punny little v6, thats almost as bad as puttin a chevy motor in a mustang, JUST PLAIN DUMB!!!!!!

Its a pretty and fairly easy swap, but what smog laws do you need to deal with?

The '91 smog laws will be different for the '02. However, you should be able to bypass that by going to Guidos Garage and have him smog it for you. Othar than that, stab it and slab it!

The swap is pretty involved,.. not too hard though. About the same as swapping in a 4.6.

As for performance between the two,.. not much difference. Both have a strong after market and can make plenty of power. As which is stronger,.. the 4.6 block will hold together well beyond 700hp,.. the HO block will not.

As for the swap. To the best of my knowledge,.. the V6 k-member is the same as what was used in the 94 - 95 V6/5.0 cars so wont need another k-member like you would with a 4.6.

How ever.
If you plan to keep the EFI intact you will need a complete engine and tranny harness as well as a supporting computer and harness. You will also probably need a gauge cluster from a 94 - 95 GT as the 02 gauge cluster will not support the mechanical speedo cable nor will the odometer function. The 94 - 95 GT used the same serpentine system as the V8 Exploerers. Not 100% sure if the Fox serpentine will fit correctly with the V6 radiator. You may also need to swap out the upper intake for a 94/95 GT upper intake with the curved TB neck and shorter runners for hood clearance. If you go with a manual tranny it would simplfy the swap greatly. Other wise you would need an AOD. I believe and AODE would require a bit more wiring and tuning (EG: $$$$).

To really simplify the swap,.. just convert to a carb. Edelbrock performer intake, a Holley 600cfm 4160 vac secondary carb. A Holley blue pump, Can use the same fuel sending unit,.. just remove the stock pump and add about 10" of fuel line to the neck and drop it back down in the tank. Not sure on the 02 V6,.. but 94 - 98 cars had a return style fuel system. The 99 - 04 GT's did not. If a return style,.. just run a return style regulator,.. use an inline fuel pressure gauge,.. keep the fuel pressure at around 7 PSI and should run fine.

Of course,.. non of the V6 exhaust will be usable. The 7.5 rear in the V6 will hold up fine for normal street use. But may run into problems at the track with sticky tires.

If they ever do emissions testing they will declare the motor illegal and force you to remove it or they will revoke your registration. I've been through this in another state with another car. Put a 400 SBC in a 84 Camaro in Maryland. Since GM never offered a 400 in 84,.. they declared it illegal. Unless you can convince them its a V6 still in there,.. (You never know).

Thanx
Hey thanks for the info. Helped alot. I will be using a manual tranny. I also have a cervini's 4" cobra hood for it so clearance shouldnt be a problem, and im really wanting to keep the old school stock air plenum. Some idiot put flowmasters on the v-6 so it sounds horrible, but at leaste they will be there for the new motor. I dont ever se this car goin down the track since it will be my wifes daily driver. (well maybe once)
