Matt Mungall/Steve Burns Interview 4.73 Drag Radial Nitrous Record

Sunday morning at the US Street Nationals in Bradenton I had the chance to do a quick interview with Matt Mungall and Steve Burns. Steve is the car owner and he and Matt are in partnership with what is now the quickest nitrous assisted Drag Radial car around. During qualifying Matt laid down a stellar 4.73 @ 152 1/8th mile pass full 6 hundredths better then the previous best, shared by Ritchie Stine and Troy Pirez @ 4.79.

The car debuted in November 08 at Sunshine Drag Strip’s Heads Up Madness event after making the drive from North Carolina, basically using the race as a test session.





They ran 5.10 off the trailer, then 5.09, then into the low .90’s in eliminations before meeting up with Will Stevenson in the third round with a 4.82 to Matt’s 4.93. It’s hard to get around that I don’t care who you are. The engine builder/tuner is Robin Stackpole of R.S. Performance in Monroe North Carolina and features three stages of nitrous. Hickory NC resident Mike Fulbright of MF Performance also assists in tuning the car. Look for the Punisher Racing crew to attend all the radial tire events they can and I am sure some grudge matches as well if anyone wants to give a try.
