Kevin Fiscus...Outlaw Drag Radial World Record Holder
What does it take to be the world record holder in Outlaw Drag Radial? Well that’s what the newest record holder Kevin Fiscus has provided us with. Kevin and his 2002 Mustang went for the record during the first round of eliminations at the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals this past weekend at Bradenton Motorsports Park. The result was a 7.066 @ 202mph. Obviously it requires lots of testing and plenty of skill to put over 2500 horsepower to the ground on a radial tire and Fiscus has placed himself atop the food chain in the outlaw world.

Kevin and his crew that consists of his wife Linda and Jason Combs are sure to have put in tireless hours preparing the Mustang to its current state. Fiscus’ Mustang is a dual certified 25.2-25.5 car with chassis upgrades by Speedfab. Power is provided by a 454 cubic inch small block Ford Proline engine which receives massive amounts of boost from twin Precision GT4788 turbos. Engine management is provided through a Bigstuff 3 with a few key clicks from the Steve Petty. An AMS 1000 controls the boost while a MSD Digital 8 provided the spark. The Petty tuned monster is backed by a Neal Racing Powerglide and a custom converter from Neal Chance.

It requires much more than just the power to set records. The car has to hook consistently while maintaining control at speeds over 200mph. Kevin relies on components from Chris Alston Chassiswork’s for all the key pieces to the puzzle. The Mustang sports a Fab 9 rear along with double adjustable varishocks and struts.

Kevin’s world record pass consisted of a 1.27 sixty foot which he feels was with the back tires and continued suit to a 3.18 (330ft). The eighth mile time was a 4.678 @ 162mph. The real important numbers flashed up just 2.388 seconds later when the scoreboards flashed up the 7.066 @ 202mph to reset the world record. This pass has stirred up a lot of interest in who will be the first to break the six second barrier. Fellow drag radial racer Alex Vrettos is quoted as saying that he feels that the first person that gets back to the track is going to be the one as many cars are well capable of doing so. At this time there is prize money being assembled for the person who is the first in the sixes by promoter and racer Dave Hance of New York Motorsports.

Kevin's world record timeslip.

Unfortunately Kevin had a bit of bad luck in the next round of competition when his car went into a huge wheel stand in which the car was all the way up on the parachute mount with all four wheels off the ground. Evident from the in car video Fiscus did an excellent piece of driving to keep the car under control. The return to earth was not so nice as the car continued down track spinning around several times and coming to rest against the retaining wall. Damage was costly but could have been much worse. The k-member and a-arms absorbed most of the impact along with damage to the oil pan, steering rack and tires. Kevin informed me that repairs are under way and they plan on being on the track December 20th to try and the first in the six second zone. We wish Kevin and crew the best of luck in there quest to sixes.
