John Kolivas has made a huge name for himself in the NMRA. The multi time world champion has been a dominant force in drag radial. Kolivas says that the past four years were an absolute blast but he is exhausted from being tied down to the rigorous schedule, John feels its time for change.
Kolivas and crew have removed the
NMRA bullet which was derived from a 5.4-liter with a single turbo. In its place now sits a
Bennett prepared 427 cubic inch motor with canted valve heads and a huge billet 114 MM turbo from
Precision. The combination started to come together in September and made its first passes at the ORTC in Bradenton, Florida. A ton of work had to be done to get to this point, with much attention being placed on the suspension that needed weight moved around to be correct with the new combination. Qualifying in the top 5 the first time out is a huge deal, especially when a 4.83 stops the clocks and you are amongst the fastest in the country. The glory was short lived with a red light second round. After that day the crew went back to work and was testing a few weeks later dropping times in the low 4.70’s.
A rash of testing has been seen from many of the top contenders over the past month. Kolivas has been one of the teams that are making the trip to
South Georgia Motorsports Park. In the first full ¼ mile pass he ran 7.25 @ 202 which places him the top ten fastest in the world. With the eighth mile times close to the best that they had ran to date, John is very confident that he can run substantially faster. He also says that 200 MPH will get your attention quick. Plans are to race when he is able this season and they are extremely excited to be a part of the Outlaw Drag Radial craze.
