It has been thirty years since the Fox-body Mustang first debuted. Among the most popular platforms for modifications due to its wide availability and relatively cheap cost to tweak, the Fox-body has surely reached legendary status. Part of that long history is the JBA Dominator Mustang, a Ford-backed test platform for many high performance parts, including independent rear suspension and modular motors. This wide body Fox has just 14,000 miles and is one of the most documented Mustangs in history.
Now, it is on
eBay, up for auction for a starting bid of just $34,500.
The
JBA Dominator is currently owned by
Latemodel Restoration and is a true one-of-a-kind car. It began life as 1989 Mustang, but was quickly equipped with many performance parts to serve as a test bed for Ford. It was originally built to compete in the “Road & Track” supercar issue, competing against the likes of the Big Red Camaro and 8.1 liter IROC. While it did indeed have modular motors, it currently has a Lightning 351 motor with GT-40 heads and a Cobra intake. A 585 JBA motor was slated to be installed for a Bonneville speed record attempt, but never was.
Braking comes from four-wheel disc brakes off of a Lincoln and Thunderbird, which also supplies the independent rear suspension. A custom fuel cell, aircraft fuel lines, and
Aeromotive fuel pump provide gas to the 351. Custom Monocoque 2-piece 17” wheels compliment the wide body kit, which includes a tall, two-point rear spoiler that looks like it better belongs on a Subaru STi. This one-of-one car can be yours for not much more than a new Mustang GT, and it will draw much more attention. Whether it is good or bad attention, I couldn’t tell you.
