Hyperformance's 9-second Street/Strip "Project Stock Block"
Not many folks can say that the slower car in their garage - which they just happened to drive to the office that day – runs in the 9s. If, however, you’re Dan Saitz, owner of Hyperformance Motorsports in Fenton, Missouri, you can. Saitz, who competes in the ADRL’s Pro Extreme division behind the wheel of a supercharged Hemi-powered ‘07 Mustang GT500, has quite the head-turning ride away from the track as well.

The street/strip car, a 1987 Mustang GT, was built for fun and testing of parts and pieces for customers and is a rather modest build, maintaining the stock chassis with stock front and rear suspension, full interior, and a full NHRA-legal cage certified to 8.50.

Dubbed “Project Stock Block,” the car sports a stock block, stock crank 351 Windsor with mildly ported Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads and 5.8 intake, and a custom hydraulic roller cam. The engine is topped with a FAST XFI fuel injection system. The giddyup comes from a custom Hyperformance stainless turbo kit featuring a Precision PT88 turbo, 1-3/4” headers, 2-1/2” crossover, custom aluminum cold side tubing, and JGS 60mm wastegate and blow-off valve. Boost control comes from a custom “budget” unit, also by Hyperformance.

The driveline consists of a Powerglide transmission with a TCI converter, a 3” steel driveshaft, an 8.8 rear end with 33-spline Moser Axles and 3.55 gears built by Hyperformance. The stock block rocket has run as quick as 9.25 seconds at 153 MPH, and 5.99 at 120 MPH to the eighth-mile.
