Ford Mulling 400+ Horsepower Taurus SHO?
For a long time, the luxury sport sedan segment belonged to the Europeans, who mopped up with such performance machines like the BMW M3. America punched back with the famous Ford Taurus SHO, which is today’s form sports a twin-turbo 365 horsepower V6 engine and all-wheel drive. That makes it the most powerful SHO ever, and one of the most powerful performance sedans on the market. What could be better?

AutoBlog is reporting that Ford might have a few more ponies up its sleeve for the Taurus SHO. Steve Ling, North American Car Marketing Manager for Ford hinted that the SHO might be getting a horsepower bump sometime soon.

It has already been reported by more than one source that the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine has a lot more horsepower potential than Ford is letting on. It is, after all, twin turbocharged and equipped with the latest in engine technology from one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. We’ve heard that it was the transaxles in the SHO that limited the horsepower output of the first-generation SHO.

We have also heard that the Ford F-150 could be getting a 400 horsepower version of the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine. Steve Ling, in a conference at Ford’s Headquarters on Tuesday, said that “The SHO is at the top of the line, and we’re going to keep it there. 365 horsepower is good. 400 is better.” Bold words, but Ling is right; to stay on top, Ford will have to keep upping the ante. And with more Ford products inching into the $40,000 range, customers are going to start expecting more from the Blue Oval. So, is a 400 horsepower SHO far away? Only time will tell.
