Just got back from the city of Torrance where Vic Edelbrock opened up his personal garage, and invited specialty car owners to show their cars. I will be uploading photos from the event in the next couple of days, but let me give you a quick brief on what was there.
In one quick line: There was something for everyone.
I saw a line of original Big Boss 302 Mustangs, Camaros from every generation, a row of prowlers, Mopars galore, and the late 60's Trans Am series cars. In Vic's garage there was everything from a 1946 Ford Woody Wagon hauling a vintage Kurtis Craft midget racer (yeah, I know....the midget and the woody). I saw a 1968 Husqvarna dirt bike next to a cushman scooter. There were Harleys, vettes, and a Ford GT (y'know, the remake of the legendary Ford GT40 supercar).
Car collectors from all over were present. It was a pleasure to stop and talk with them about their cars. And they knew their cars in great detail. Production numbers, options, previous owners and any other detail you could ever want to know. Amongst all the collectors and spectators I managed to run into a rock legend. The guitar master Jeff Beck was present. I talked with him briefly and tried to get him in front of the video cam, but alas, he was on a busy schedule. Rock on Jeff Beck.....Rock on.
I have a great deal of admiration for Richard Petty. Petty would stay at the track and sign autographs until all the fans were gone. I saw the same commitment from Vic Edelbrock Jr. today. In addition to doing all this kind of work for numerous organizations, Mr. Edelbrock sat and signed autographs from the opening of the event till the last person was gone. I already had a huge amount of respect for Mr. Edelbrock and the Edelbrock corporation, but today his effort for the fans, in the blazing heat, really cemented his hero status to me. Bless you Mr. Edelbrock. Maybe you didn't ask for it, but you became a personal hero to me.
Our PowerTv crew was treated extremely well by Christi Edelbrock as well. This dynamo of a woman was busy organizing the event, playing hostess to all the car owners and celebrities and still had time to do a series of interviews with us. Christi Edelbrock is a class act and I would welcome the chance to attend next year's 4th annual Rev'ved up 4 kidz car show.
It was a really special car show. I'm wore out, sunburned and my feet are killing me......but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
My dream car was there. A beautiful black 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback.
