Does The Mustang Need An Independent Rear Suspension?
Here is an article I came across on TheMustangNews.com site by Sam Haymart. I thought it was pretty interesting and I was wondering what you all think.

"05-02-08: Having just spent some time driving the new Shelby GT-500KR which is arguably the highest performance Mustang Ford has ever offered with a warranty, the question still lingers. Should the Mustang have a modern independent rear suspension (IRS)? For many, it’s hard to imagine that in 2008 we have a Mustang with an MSRP of $80,000 that still has a live rear axle."

You can see the rest of the story here. http://www.themustangnews.com/tech_08/st-0508irs102.htm

No. The Mustang community is far more interested in straightline performance, and there are enough suspension pieces in the aftermarket to make one handle well enough for road-course operation.

Take the stupid IRS and leave it for the Corvette owners.

The IRS is a POS?

Pun intended, of course.

OK I'm a 2003 Cobra owner and I think the IRS has so many benefits from a straight axle application.
Listen not every road in America is not straight and the road do twist and turn allot. As you can tell in my pics that I love to drag race but having the best of both worlds rule. Plus for me the IRS in the drag racing application works extremely well for me...knock on wood! My car leaves like a bad ass cutting 1.50 60 foots and when I'm racing the car for 1320 feet the car goes in straight line. I remember the days of my 5.0 was a real scary thing to race down the track. I now the Shelby is better equipped than an old fox body but from what I understand the Shelby has limitations to its handling capabilities!! You go for a ride in The Vader's snake on the handling suspension & the snake grips the road as if it was on rails and with the power waiting in reserve for when the road gets straight.
I live in Beverly Hills and I've raced every kind of Ferrari and Porsche and Lambo out there and I always get the stare of disbelief when I'm hanging with them around the turn then smoking them when the road turns straight.
I think to have the option of having an IRS suspension Shelby would not hurt for an options upgrade but thats my opinion.

So that's my take on it, so let me know what you guys think.

Vader Out!!

Took me a while to respond to this one because I found it difficult to believe that I was in agreement with the Vader. I even liked the fact that he mentioned that it could be sold as an option.

I have to go now and get an annual check up done. Something must be wrong when I see things the same way that Vader does.
