Round 2 of Eliminations
There were plenty of upsets here in Round 2 of eliminations, which we just finished up with.

Drag Radial
Drag Radial continued to be more of the same, with Kevin Fiscus and John Kolivas both running in the 8.0's, with Kolivas running a Round 2 best of 8.053 at 178.67 mph. Other winners include Bob Kurgan who ran 8.10, Chris Tuten, and Phil Clemmons.

Pro Outlaw 10.5W
Conrad Scary went another 6-second pass, a 6.91 at 208.28 mph, defeating Mike Brown, but the best race in the round was a pedal fest between Dan Millen and Tim Essick, the 2007 NMRA Pro Outlaw champion. Millen went a .134 / 7.32 / 184.88 to take out Essick after pedaling the vehicle off the starting line where it went a dead left. Murillo made a single but lifted at half track, and Brian Carpenter made a single when Morgano was a no show.

Millen won a pedal fest to fast forward to the semi's.

Super Street Outlaw
Best races of the event in Rd 2 of SSO. Upset time in Super Street Outlaw, #2 in points Don Burton goes down in the second round, with a problematic 7.97 not being enough against Richard Leslz from Texas. Major drama in Round 2 as Manny Buginga took on rival turbo racer Jarret Halfacre, and ended up on the losing end of the stick, as Jarrett unleashed a 7.51 at 196 to Buginga's 7.63. Urist, the 2007 Champion, took on Phil Hines, the #1 qualifier, what a great showdown. Urist made a clean 7.78 pass but Hines lost traction and went a 2.11 60-foot. It seems Hines is making huge power but he can't always lay it down. The round finished up with AJ Powell making a single.

Renegade
A red light for George Seeger did the deal against Chris Van Gilden, letting him advance to Round 2. David Guy advanced when Alton Clements broke, and Randy King advanced against Gerovlo. Brian Mitchell

Pure Street
Bad Brad Meadows was hoping for a better finish than #2 in 2008. He's on the trailer courtesy of Teddy Weaver who ran a 10.37 at 129.64. Both drivers ran identical .073 reaction times. Alsept defeated Hecox with a 10.25 at 132.74, but Hecox went smoking 134.91 mph! Victor Downs took a single.

Brad Bad Meadows does awesome wheelie stands, but he got taken out by Teddy Weaver. Paul H. did get a super cool shot of him losing though.

Factory Stock
John Leslie keeps going rounds in Factory Stock, with a 11.53 at 117 win over Rick Walsh. Godfrey and Gifford look to be heading toward yet another final round meeting with a 11.24 win for Godfrey and an 11.36 at 123.32 mph run for Gifford.

Mike Murillo is broken - out due to transmission damage
We've just received word that Mike Murillo is out of competition due to a broken transmission. We suspected there was a problem when we posted this photo at the top of the thread where his trans smoked badly after his last pass. Mike told he us was happy qualifying #2 and that no matter the outcome he was happy with his performance. The San Antonio-based Texas racer was feared by some, and overlooked by others. One thing is for sure, Murillo is going to be a major force in 2008 in the NMRA.

Round 3 Notes
Drag Radial
Bob Kurgan took out Phil Clemmons with a 8.15 at 172 mph, Tuten got a single, and John Kolivas went 8.07 at 178 mph to defeat Kevin Fiscus who spun the tires with a 1.66 60-foot.

Renegade
Brian Mitchell just lost to Chris Van Gilder, as Mitchell's car was all over the place. He will meet David Guy in the finals who took out Randy King.

Hot Street
In the first official Kuntz. vs. Roush battle, Booze took out Blankenship in a squeaker, with a 8.708 to 8.721. Booze will meet Ben Mens, 2007 champion, in the finals.

Pure Street
Brandon Alsept broke and was unable to make the call, so the win went to Victor Downs who ran a 10.38. This was a major upset for the team. Since Teddy Weaver has a competition bye, it will be Downs and Weaver in the finals.

Real Street
During the semi-final race, Mike Washington would be off the pace. Breeze took the win with a lifting 9.91 to Washington's 10.495. Tim Matherly went a very impressive 9.64 to advance against his team mate beating Brian McCormick.

Pro Outlaw 10.5W
Mike Murillo (as mentioned) broke his transmission, giving the single win to Conrad Scary. Another great race was Dan Millen and Brian Carpenter. Millen went 7.19 to defeat Brian Carpenter who ran a 7.29 at nuts 215.31 mph! It will be Millen and Scary in the finals.

Here's Millen taking out Carpenter.

Super Street Outlaw
A.J. Powell's car was off at the start, giving Richard Lelsz his first ever SSO final round match up!

Check out this shot of Lelsz pullin away from AJ.

Hohn Urist, hard work and all, is going to the finals with his new ride. Halfacre was in it until half track when his transmission (or engine) went away. You can see in the shot below that they were very close at half track, that is - until Halfacre's death smoke ended the match.

Factory Stock
It would be John Leslie's first final round as he had a bye! Gifford barely nicked Tommy Godfrey in a heads-up battle with a 12.27 at 120.9 to 11.27 at 118.65.

Round 4 - Drag Radial
It would be Kolivas and Tuten to meet up in the semi's, and Kolivas's machine was screaming into the beams. Tuten got out of shape and spun and had to lift. That gave K the win with a 8.09 at 178 mph. Kurgan would have a competitive single and just broke the beams.

What you don't want to do in your Pro Outlaw 10.5W Car
Conrad Scary did a scary wheel stand in Round 3 of Eliminations and had the front end 3 feet in the air at 300 feet. Not a happy thing. Scary's car started to move around so he wisely got out of it, but a very unhappy set of Turbo headers were the result and the sparks went flying.
