Phil Hines goes #1 in Super Street Outlaw
Phil Hines has been a consistent racer in NMRA Super Street Outlaw, but he's never laid his hand down like he did in Round 3 of NMRA Qualifying at Bradenton. Phil got his big HP machine under control, and put down the 7.46 needed to qualify in the top position over A.J. Powell.

Congrats Phil - it's well deserved in our opinion for all of your hard work.

Booze & Carpenter make statement
Charlie Booze showed no off-season rust and shocked the Hot Street field by dropping the first 8.60's pass in history at the first event of the season. In a field sporting multiple Roush-powered entries, all were forced to watch Booze outclass the field by a major margin in qualifying.

NMRA Pro Outlaw 10.5W cars haven't run in the 6-second zone since the 2006 season. With most of the pre-race talk centering around Mike Murillo, Carpenter showed he's not to be ignored by qualifying #1 with a 6.886 at 212.01 mph. Murillo also ran 212 in the final round as well.

Tim Matherly In Car Camera - Round 2
We installed an in-car camera in Tim Matherly's Real Street machine for Round 2 of qualifying. Enjoy.

You won't enjoy the small cord flying around in there. We have no idea what that is.

A few stories from Saturday's Action
Millen looks to fresh M/T rubber to cure starting line blues

With more power courtesy of a new turbo system from Kooks - Team Millen is looking some answers to the new combo blues. Except for one super straight pass, Scottie and Dan have been chasing a car that wants to turn left on the starting line or hit the wheelie bars too hard. A few sets of fresh rubber may cure the problem, we'll know tomorrow after first round.

A little carnage from the Pro Outlaw 10.5W camp of Tim Essick

Pro Outlaw 10.5 Champion from 2007 NMRA -- Tim Essick was planning on a smooth opening event in 2008. Unfortuntely, a transmission thrash at the last minute along with the newly mandated NMRA engine diaper resulted in the flywheel grabbing the diaper straps and causing some havoc downstairs.

Team Sutton putting the whip to their blower belts...

Sure, Team Sutton ran a 8.48 in the 3rd Round of Renegade competition with Bob Cook driving, but that doesn't mean they didn't have their share of problems. The team has been over spinning the blower (their words) to push the performance envelope of their 8,500+ rpm Modular, and a little belt tragedy has been the result.

Buginga's turbo plumbing causes disappointment

Team Buginga was a busy beaver in the off-season, as he overhauled his entire car and combination in an effort to return to the winner's circle. A fresh turbo system, newly placed turbo right in the middle of the bumper (cleaner air), a freshened engine, and all new plumbing and paint were just some the tweaks.

Check out the newly all white/black Bugina machine:

New car bugs ended up disappointing the team as they really never made a clean hit. On two runs the turbo hoses popped off (one time at the engine) and the other time at the intercooler during the pass (and 30+ psi) causing Manny to lift and abort the run.

Because of the thrash to get the car finished for the NMRA event, there was no time to put in V-band clamps or the security rods that kept the hoses from releasing themselves under the huge load of the Turbonetics turbocharger.

The team told us they are going to be putting together a midnight fix and will be ready to tango for Round 1 on Sunday.

Alsept steps to the Head of the Class in NMRA Pure Street

Brandon Alsept and his Dynojet-sponsored 1998 Pure Street Modular Ford Mustang continue their rise to the top of Pure Street with a 10.15 132.62 mph qualifying effort over #2 Brad Meadows who ran a 10.25 at 131. Meadows and Alsept kept basically the same combination since last year, and a pushrod vs. mod motor battle is expected to rage during 2008.
