| AJ Powell SSO #2397 Bowling Green Wow what a great race!!!! I had an absolute blast. We went in to the gates Thursday afternoon to get parked and get through tech, we got everything unloaded and made it through tech at about 4:30 and went back to the pits to grill and relax. My brother Dustin drove in from his college in Oklahoma just to help, my buddy Mike came in at 6:00 am Friday morning. We had a full house in the motorhome it almost looked like a dorm room after a party the way the sleeping arrangments worked! I got up Friday morning bright and early like I always do got the car out of the trailer and looked a couple things over and was ready to go make a test pass. We made a pass at about noon and worked on our tune-ups and figured we were pretty close so we went in to 1st round of qualifying. I had a slim chance mathmaticlly of the championship but it would of taken a lot of luck and that is something that I don't have! The first round went well we were 2nd qualifier with a 7.42 my 60', 330' and 1/8 mile increments were slow for me and the track was good so I figured I would crank it up a little more for 2nd round. Well second round proved a little better but still only good for second 7.419@ 189.90 The third round I figured I would leave it close and it proved to be damn near the same 7.416@ 189.50 We ended up 2nd in qualifying and John Urist was first at a burning 7.35 wich is amazing. We hung out on Saturday night and checked the car out and mounted tires and we were ready to race I had Chris Burleson first round AGAIN!!!! It seems Chris and I race an awful lot. Well unfortunatley Chris broke something and said he wasn't going to make the call first round so I had a bye first and second round. We were the last car out both rounds and you wouldn't believe it but I went a 7.411@189.99 I thought we were bracket racing! The second round I shut the car off a little early and went 7.46 @171 In the semi's I had a face up that is the toughest there is and That is John Urist, I had lane choice so I chose the right lane but they were even we both left the starting line pretty even and I went a 7.44 @188 to John's 7.41@ 189 It was close but we got out and shook hands and we went back to the trailer to load up. I would of loved to win the race but there is always next yera and I want to congratulate all the guys at Hellion because they did not let any oppurtunity get past them and wrapped up the championship after qualifying. Next year we are going to come out swinging for the fences and we are hoping to hit HOME RUNS! I am going to take a second here and thank everubody that supproted me and my team this year:
