Mustang Challenge gets its own HD series on Discovery
Reality TV has become a staple of the American late-night diet, offering up "unscripted" drama without the need for costly actors or high production costs like CGI. Shows like "Survivor" are cultural markers in the history of television, while just about everything MTV passes off as reality TV should be put out to pasture.

There have been a few car-centric reality shows, most noticeably Pinks! and Pimp My Ride, which focus on drag racing and over-the-top car customization respectively. Hot on the heels of the 2010 Mustang unveiling, the Discovery Channel has announced a three-part HD series on the Mustang Challenge Racing Series.

The Mustang Challenge is a ten race series which uses the race-ready Mustang FR500S, a bargain weekend warrior that costs about $75,000. 77 cars were made available for purchase and with such a bargain price for a race-ready car, the series is expected to draw from both the amateur and professional crowds.

There is sure to be plenty of beef as racers fight for the top spots in a series that is a true testament of driver skill, as each car is built within 2 horsepower of each other and only very limited suspension tweaks are allowed in terms of modifications. The grand prize is the Miller Cup, as each car is built and tuned by Miller Motorsports in conjunction with Ford. Cameras will be mounted on the track, in the car, and following people in the pits as everything is recorded in High Definition, meaning you can get the most out of your plasma screen.
