Mickey Thompson is not new to the drag radial tire market by any means. Though many people don’t know there is actually two different types of drag radials by MT. The Phase One is the traditional style of drag radials that you see on most competition drag radial cars. The Phase One holds the current record set by David Hinzman with a 7.18 @ 201 MPH, and is available in the most popular sizes of 275/50/15, 275/60/15, 315/50, and 325/60, etc -- almost all designed for 15-inch drag-type wheels.
The Phase Two drag radial looks more like a street tire and is made for larger diameter wheel applications and imports. The tire compound is the same. But, when you have a larger diameter tire with a shorter sidewall, you loose some of that needed sidewall flex as strength is needed to keep the rim from bottoming out. These tires are available in low-profile sizes like 275/40/17. Perfect for a fast daily-driven street car.
Sportsman S/T Street Tire
On the lighter side of Mickey Thompson is their new Sportsman S/T street tire. This is targeted towards the street market. This is not a real hardcore late-model Street performance tire, it’s a high 440 tread wear tire that gives a classic pattern look and the raised letter sidewalls that are painted white. MT plans to release the S/T in January in the top eight most popular 15-inch sizes. It will be great for regular street cars and Friday-night hot rods.
