600,000 Miles on 5.0L? Sounds fishy.
A story which has made the rounds in the last week has raised some eyebrows: claims of a 5.0L Mustang that is approaching close to 700,000 miles. Owned by the prototypical "little old lady" living Mars Hill, North Carolina, Shirley Fender's answer to her 1989 Mustang GT's longevity is simply - "we change the oil".

We call go fish For one thing, the vehicle in the video is dirty, rusted, and the interior looks like it hasn't been cleaned in 19 years. How does a vehicle that looks like it has been driven through hell and back, never washed or cleaned, have an engine which survives in perfect condition?

We called "B.S" on the story when Fender said on camera, "I go up logging roads, drive it through the creek... anywhere a 4-wheel drive can go." The engine sounds just fine, nothing like the piston-knocking mess a 700,000 mile 302 would sound like.

Danny Fender, when asked how he helps to maintain his mom's car, says simple changing the spark and wires. Head gaskets? Intake gaskets? Oil Pan and Valve Cover gaskets?

However, nothing could possibly top the quote from Ms. Fender: "When you go in a curve, it sets down and goes like a Coyote does."

What kind of news do they have going on in Carolina anyways?

Rednecks to the core. Am I to believe that this off-road Mustang which is so unkempt is actually capable of running so smoothly after 650,000 miles.... give me a break the news is going to crap.

C'mon I have a little over 100k on my Northstar and it sounds like it is going to blow up. Ask James he'll tell you.

Even the big rig diesels on the road need to have some major work done when they get around 300k. Just changing the oil and the spark plugs and wires by her trusted mechanic son ain't going to cut it. Now, if Ford comes back and says we did a complete check on this and by the looks of the engine deposits, wear on bearings and yada yada yada. Yeah it really is the longest lasting gas engine in the world and this lady is now the happy owner of the new KR. Then and only then will I maybe, possibly even consider that the engine is all original with no overhaul. But until then, I am with Vader "I call bull shit"!
