I believe that I'd try to find out a bit more about your cam if you can. It will help you later when you're trying to squeeze a few more horses out of her.
I think that I would approach it much the same way that you are. Get the chassis set up so that you can mount the engine and drivetrain. Then I would worry about the wiring and other stuff.
Sounds like you already have a game plan. If I read your messages right, you're pretty much looking for a good place to pick up decent used or reconditioned parts. I bet if you posted in the classified section of this forum, you'll find someone out there that has the parts you are looking for.
If you get stuck somewhere in the build, you can post a question in the tech section of the forum and get help galore. We have some pretty savvy folks that contribute to the tech forum. And they are really helpful and friendly.
