Ford Racing provides some of the most affordable, track-ready racing vehicles of any manufacturer. Among their creations is the FR500CJ, as in Cobra Jet, an all-out V8-powered drag car sold for a tick under $70,000 and pre-approved for NHRA racing events.

When Ford announced the continuation of the FR500CJ program in June, it was announced that the engine would be a 425 horsepower supercharged 5.4 liter V8. The way the front end came right up off the ground in this video leaves little doubt that this engine no longer features the heavy iron block weighing down so many Mustangs. An aluminum block would likely be several hundred pounds lighter, and is among many of the options offered on the 2010 CJ.
Like the 2009 FR500CJ, production will be limited to just fifty vehicles, and the car will debut at the SEMA show in November. Among the options are three choices of transmissions: a six-speed is standard, but a Liberty 5-speed is available, as is a race-prepped automatic. Lightweight racing brakes, an NHRA certified 8.50 e.t. rollcage, and stripped interior are also available, meaning these cars are ready for serious work right out of the box. Pricing is said to be in the $75,000 range for 2010. Look for more details come November.
