The The NHRA has released all their rule revisions and amendments for the upcoming 2009 season. There has been a strong focus on several matters at hand, and with the assistance of SFI, they have implemented some changes. With the majority of the heads up series and tracks abiding by the NHRA rules for the technical inspection process it is something that we all should take a look at.
There has been a
major installment of rules updated for the upcoming season and please be sure to visit the NHRA web site or pick up a copy of the rule book to ensure that your car meets the requirements of your certain class.
The main change that seems to have effected everyone is the helmet rules being put in place. SFI and the NHRA have recommended that helmets have the face shield in place, and the old K98 series are to be no longer allowed. This rule will be strictly enforced in the sportsman and pro ranks. This is a smart decision in our eyes because it helps save the drivers from some smoke inhalation and burning in the case of fire or smoke.
In 2008 there has been a lot of talks about the advanced e.t. license -- with the ever progressing times in heads up racing, especially drag radial. For those racers that are in the advanced range it is mandatory to have a five pound fire extinguisher system. It must be divided between the drivers side compartment and the engine. There has also been a upgrade in the fire suits for the advanced e.t. range. All drivers must now wear a SFI specified 3.2A/15 driving suit.
Another critical area is the head and neck restraint devices. Neck collars that comply with the SFI 3.3 standard are required on all cars running faster than 9.99 or 6.39 in the eighth mile. Also required when speeds exceed 135mph, a head and neck restraint may be used in lieu of a neck collar.main change that seems to have effected everyone is the helmet rules being put in place.
