1320x Invades Milan
StangTV made the trip out to Milan Dragway to cover the 1320x race series event held on Saturday, May 16th. If you are not familiar with the 1320x Series, it’s a series of races promoted by Nate and Adam Pritchett from the popular SpeedTV show PINKS. The two brothers are longtime drag racers and now race promoters. Two main classes are the headliners at 1320x events: Outlaw 10.5 and Outlaw Drag Radial. The coverage is brought to you by the team over at SCT Flash, manufacturers of a very popular line of tuning devices, including the new-to-be-released wireless Touch Screen Xtreme.

If you want to learn more about 1320X, check out their web site at www.1320x.com

1320x Outlaw 10.5
is the fastest and most challenging class with a pro qualifying ladder and 16 car fields. Engine modification are unlimited in this class and the suspension modifications are unlimited from the front firewall back. All cars must retain the stock type front suspension and are limited to a 10.5W tire. Weight requirements are based on engine configuration and power adder type.

1320x Outlaw Drag Radial is the “entry level” heads up class with a pro qualifying ladder and a 16 car field. The class allows unlimited engine modifications but the limiting factor for this class is the requirement to run a Drag Radial type tire. All cars are encouraged to use “factory-style” suspension and the rear frame rails of the car must remain intact. Minimum weight requirements are based on engine configuration, suspension, and power adder type.

Eleven Outlaw 10.5 cars made the trip to Milan and after a four hour rain delay they finally hit the track for qualifying. After two rounds of qualifying, Joe Newsham's Mustang held the top spot followed by Nick Scavo in his FastTimes prepped turbo Camaro.

1320x Outlaw 10.5 Final Qualifying Order
  1. Joe Newsham
  2. Nick Scavo
  3. Bill Mitchell
  4. Jeff Harrington
  5. Dean Parker
  6. Bill Lutz
  7. Chris Mark
  8. Paul Jesko
  9. Brenda Paddock
  10. Jeff Baker
  11. Rob Golobo

In Outlaw Drag Radial qualifying, “Ohio Boy” Mike Brown’s 99 Pontiac Trans-Am earned the top spot with a 7.63 e.t. at 187 mph. This LSX powered TA is turbo powered and consistent for an Outlaw car, followed by the Camaro of Richie Stine.

1320x Outlaw Drag Radial Final Qualifying Order
  1. Mike Brown 7.63/187
  2. Richie Stine 7.71/177
  3. Jim Filipowski 7.76/194
  4. Steve Turley 7.82/189
  5. Alex Vrettos 7.84/194
  6. Dave Hinzman 8.06/185
  7. Josh Henline 8.12/177
  8. Mark Motsinger 8.21/171
  9. Ronald Arbogast 8.22/169
  10. Mark Koehler 8.45/183
  11. Junior Southwell 8.79/154
  12. Mike Floeter 8.80/157
  13. Joe Wheeler 8.99/169
  14. Gary Kramer 9.32/143
  15. Paul Major 9.78/125
  16. David Harmer 9.91/148

Drag Radial hitter Dave Hinzman was up early Saturday tuning on his turbo Mustang. Hinzman made it to the semi-finals losing to 1320x DR class winner Richie Stine.

In Drag Radial qualifying, John Balansky had a top end scare after his 180 mph pass. The parachutes deployed but were pulled off the mounts at top speed. The car spun sevearal times but stayed on all four tires. Damage was to the drivers front fascia and fender and other tweaks. The New York crew attempted to fix the turbo powered 81 Cutlass but could not make 1st round.

Paul Major made the trip from the east coast with his 2001 Corvette Z06 Drag Radial car. Last year Paul's Z06 lead the GM Drag Radial pack, laying down several 7.2 passes during the year and running a personal best of 7.23@205 MPH at the Shakedown at E-Town. Paul's LSX engine was built by PCHS Racing Engines and sports twin trunk mounted 91 mm turbos. Paul struggled to get a grip on the Milan track and qualified fifteenth. Paul was a first round casualty to class winner Richie Stine.

Dale Arbogast races this slick Nitrous Drag Radial Nova. Arbogast qualified ninth with a 8.22 e.t. at 169 mph and lost first round. The trick paint job has that weathered look like it’s a 8 second barn find. The airbrushed patina is killer on this car as well as the Yenko stripe treatment. 1320x Milan Best Appearing Car in my book.

The Ohio Boy’s racing team came to Milan with some pretty serious F-bodied race cars. This supercharged bright candy orange Trans-Am owned by Mark Koehler qualified 10th but lost in the first round.

Jeff Harrington owns this single turboed Fox Body Outlaw 10.5 Mustang. Jeff qualified 4th but lost in the 3rd round at Milan.

Nick Scavo’s Camaro was a nice piece. The FastTimes crew always prepare a competitive car. We like the hula doll (above) in the rear window. Scavo qualified 2nd but lost to Newsome in the 2nd round.

Mark Motsinger Mustang was hooked up in qualifying. Motsinger was in the eighth spot but lost in round 2 to the number 1 qualifier and Drag Radial runner-up Mike Brown.

Despite all the rain on Saturday, the Milan track surface was sticky. Here a 1320x Bracket Challenge 68 Nova hooks hard in qualifying.

Milan regular Paul Jesko races this nice nitrous powered Duster in Outlaw 10.5. Jesko qualified eighth but lost in the second round.

2007 Milan Outlaw 10.5 Champion Bill Lutz was the runner-up in Outlaw 10.5. His 67 Camaro runs a 540 c.i BBC with two Precision Turbo 88 mm turbos.

Joe Wheeler owns this 1979 Ford Drag Radial Mustang Indy Pace Car. This car is a true 1979 Pace Car but now sports a 632 inch big block Chevy on nitrous. Joe is a regular at Milan Dragway’s Heads Up Class. He qualified 13th in 1320x Drag Radial but lost in the first round.

2008 ORSCA Outlaw 10.5 Champ Joe Newsham qualified #1 and won the 1320x Milan Outlaw 10.5 title. The J&E Performance Mustang sports a Chevrolet powerplant and twin turbos. In the finals, Newsham beat another turbo powered car, Bill Lutz with a 6.77e.t. at an impressive 222 mph to Lutz’s 6.93e.t. @ 205mph.
