Want a direct-replacement turbo upgrade for your EcoBoost Mustang? Turbonetics has developed just the unit for you.
The beauty of Ford‘s EcoBoost platform is just how willingly it responds to modifications. However, if you really want to crank up the output of an EcoBoost Mustang, a larger turbo is the way to go. Thanks to a new line of drop-in turbo upgrades from Turbonetics, that upgrade just got much easier.
In Las Vegas this week, the company showed off a new direct-replacement, twin-scroll turbo upgrade for the 2015+ EcoBoost Mustang that will significantly increase its horsepower while offering bolt-on compatibility with all the factory components.
Center stage in this display is the new drop-in replacement EcoBoost Mustang turbo from Turbonetics. It looks to handily out-perform the stock turbo (right) while offering an easy installation. On the left is a rapid prototype of the company’s forthcoming Focus RS turbo upgrade.
“When I say drop-in replacement, it is a true, drop-in replacement. All the flanges, the ports for the oil inlet, the water ports match,” Reggie Wynn of Turbonetics told us. “It’s the only EcoBoost turbo on the market that’s a true drop-in. You don’t have to run any hokey flanges or adapters. It is even reverse-rotation just like the factory unit.”
Not only is this new turbo designed to easily supplant the factory turbo, it is built to withstand the higher heat seen in performance applications.
A twin-scroll design, just like the factory turbocharger, the direct-replacement Turbonetics upgrade accepts all the factory hookups, including the oil and water fittings.
“If you look at the turbine housing, this one is not just pretty for SEMA,” Reggie said. “This is an HK30 stainless steel, investment-cast turbine housing, so it’s going to be able to handle the heat really well and still have a nice look.”
That’s going to be V-8 power from a four-cylinder.
“In terms of power, we are looking at this thing putting out around 520 horsepower to that EcoBoost, so it’s definitely going to wake it up,” Reggie said. “…That’s going to be V-8 power from a four-cylinder.”
If you’ve been good this year, these turbos will be shipping by the end of December, so you can add one to your holiday wish list for $2,495.

Better yet, next spring Turbonetics is looking to offer a drop-in replacement turbo for the vaunted Focus RS. The company teased this turbo with a rapid prototype display model.
“…It’s going to be the same mindset with this one,” Reggie added. “It’s going to be a complete drop-in as well.”
Yeah, a 500-plus-horsepower Focus RS sounds pretty awesome, so stay tuned for more on this unit.
