SEMA 2016: Ford Wins Three Hottest Vehicle Awards

The Mustang already had several Hottest Car awards under its saddle, but this year Ford’s pony car took home top honors in the new Hottest Coupe category award by exhibitors at The SEMA Show.

It’s a good thing Ford builds America’s best-selling pickup truck. The company is going to need a lot of cargo room to haul back all the trophies it won at the 50th Anniversary SEMA Show in Las Vegas. For the second year in a row, three Blue Oval machines earned the honor of SEMA’s Hottest Vehicles.

That’s right–the F-150 hauled in the Hottest Truck award, the Focus grabbed the new Hottest Hatch award and, naturally, the Ford Mustang galloped off with the new Hottest coupe honors. All three of these vehicles took home Hottest awards last year as well, so Ford vehicles are on quite a roll when it comes to acceptance by the aftermarket.

Following up its win last year as the Hottest Sport Compact the Focus also took home the hardware in a new category called Hottest Hatch.

“We are honored to take home three SEMA hottest vehicle awards for the second straight year,” Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance, said. “Embracing the aftermarket industry is something we relish, and—with Mustang, Focus and F-Series being back-to-back winners—it appears the aftermarket appreciates our products as well.”

Clearly the aftermarket loves modding Fords, as the F-150 has won Hottest Truck honors six of the seven years the honor has been awarded. Likewise, the Mustang has taken four Hottest Car SEMA awards before winning the new coupe category and the Focus collected Hottest Sport-Compact last year and Hottest Hatch this year.

The Hottest Truck award might as well be modeled after an F-150, as Ford‘s storied pickup has taken the trophy six of the seven years it has been awarded, including this year.

“Ford is a great partner with the specialty equipment market, and the Mustang, Focus and F-Series trucks are terrific platforms for customization,” Chris Kersting, SEMA President and CEO, said. “Through collaboration with Ford, the aftermarket industry has been able to provide consumers with countless products and options on ways to personalize their vehicles.”

This year SEMA added five new categories, including: Hottest Coupe, Hottest Sedan, Hottest Truck, Hottest 4×4/SUV and Hottest Hatch. The awards’ voting format was also reworked. Rather than just counting up the number of display vehicles, this year each exhibiting company was able to cast one vote in each category, so the aftermarket industry has spoken and Ford vehicles are officially hot.
