A variety of engine additives and cleaners are on display at VP Racing Fuels’ booth this week; born from the mind of the “Mad Scientists” behind the proven lineup or racing fuels, the “Madditives” solve a number of problems.
Today’s pump fuels can cause a variety of problems – the addition of ethanol to the mixture can gum up fuel injectors and fuel pumps and generally cause havoc.
“The Fuel System Cleaner is very powerful and can be used as often or as infrequently as you want to,” says VP’s James Rugg. In adidtion to the fuel system cleaner, the company offers a complement in the form of the Power Boost. “This will actually give a seat-of-the-pants power gain. It takes what you have and makes it better.
Third in the list of Madditives is the company’s Octanium octane booster, which is capable of improving your current fuel’s octane rating by up to eight points. Rugg explains that the Octane Booster works better with lower-grade fuels; using it with 87 octane fuel will give the most gain, while adding it to 93 octane fuel will give less gain, but still an improvement. Octanium is designed for offroad vehicles, and can cause issues with oxygen sensors and catalytic converters; Rugg cautions against its use in those vehicles so equipped.
“Everyone’s familiar with the effects of water in fuel; if you have any kind of vehicle or equipment that sits around for long periods of time, you need to use some kind of stabilizer to control the water. Our Fuel Stabilizer has an additional component we call Ethanol Shield, which reduces the effects of the ethanol and the problems that it can create in a fuel system. Our 8 oz. bottle covers 80 gallons of fuel – it’s very cost efficient,” he says.
Lastly, they have Diesel All-In-One fuel system conditioner, which is designed to perform a variety of functions, among them injector cleaning, sludge deposit breakdown, and even smoke reduction and fuel mileage improvements. It’s also very cost efficient – one small bottle will treat 240 gallons of diesel fuel.
