Always keeping up with the latest in street rod and custom car accessories and products, Flaming River was back this year at SEMA with a new steering column with LED indicators, and a brand new Mustang Fox Body steering rack.
The steering rack uses all brand new components, with stronger, larger gears and provides more travel for tighter, quicker turns. The problem with remanufactured steering racks is that you are still dealing with 30+ year old technology, whereas the new Flaming River Mustang racks use newer technology and new valving. The gears also utilize braided stainless steel lines for more clearance in tight places.
Sales and Marketing Coordinator John Jennings said, “These racks will work fine with a stock pump, so you won’t have to worry about a pump upgrade. The housing is cast aluminum with a steel center tube, and custom applications are available for street rod builds.” The new racks will run in the mid $800.00 range, and will have a 3 year warranty.
Moving up the steering system, Flaming River also brought out its redesigned shift indicated keyed columns with a blue LED indicators. The prior columns work great, but they wanted to improve the column for customers, and by adding the soft blue light behind the indicator it’s easier to see at night.
The new backlit indicators are only available on the new columns, as the wiring and lighting needed would require extensive modifications to the prior columns. Adding this lighted indicator is an option for the new columns, and adds an additional $99.00 to the price of the column.
