SEMA 2013: Wilwood Puts Braking in Proportion

IMG_4417GRA car that won’t start is frustrating, but a car that won’t stop is a whole different world of trouble. While we spend a lot of time concentrating on how to make horsepower, we sometimes lose track of the critical role brakes play in the high-performance picture. Wilwood has been putting a stop to things both on the track and on the street since 1977, and this year at the SEMA show, they were highlighting their new tandem master cylinder kit, which includes a mounting bracket and proportioning valve.

Another new product on display were these billet aluminum master cylinder reservoirs. They feature a 4-ounce capacity and they can be directly mounted to Wilwood's compact remote master cylinder body, or remote-mounted using Wilwood's billet bracket and stainless steel flexline.

This kit puts a bunch of their most popular master cylinder components together in a matched set, saving you time and money when assembling your braking system. The slotted flange mounting for the master cylinder bracket makes it a direct fit for many OEM applications including Chrysler, Ford, and GM muscle cars, and it’s compatible with both manual and power brake setups. The master cylinder itself is available in three different bore sizes: 7/8-, 1-, or 1 1/8-inch, and with a standard, ball-burnished, or E-coat finish.

The proportioning valve maintains complete separation between the front and rear circuits and makes the plumbing, wiring, and proportioning adjustments straightforward. An especially nice touch are the pre-bent stainless steel tubes with factory-flared tube nuts that mean one less headache for the end user. All in all, the kits make it easy to install a quality master cylinder and get started stopping sooner.
