PRI 2016: VMP Performance Gen2R TVS Supercharger

VMP Performance continues to push the performance of  Twin Vortices Series supercharger technology with another new variant. Dubbed the Gen2R TVS, this latest in the VMP line of superchargers was showcased at The PRI Show.

VMP Performance further refined the airflow of its TVS supercharger with the Gen2R. We will have a more detailed look at this unit in the near future.

“While the Gen2 was awesome and the flow was great, like any good hot rodders, people wanted to find a way to get more out of it,” BJ McCarty, business manager at VMP Performance, said. “They were opening up the inlet trying to reduce that radius between the inlet and that inboard rotor. Then, of course, a lot of people were cutting out the EGR—on the GT500 variant—and welding it up.”

Rather than carving up the existing Gen2 blower housing, VMP created a new casting designed to further reduce inlet restriction and maximize airflow. Rather than removing the EGR, they relocated it to a more advantageous location.

VMP’s Track Attack SEMA project was the first showcase of the Gen2R supercharger and its Coyote engine cranks out over 800 horsepower.

“So we looked at it and asked what we could to maximize the airflow. If you look at it the floor is even deeper than it was. The ceiling is higher than what it was,” BJ explained. “The radius is less and the inlet is actually angled differently to get that inboard rotor even more open. On the back curve, we have taken the entire EGR piece out, smoothed it out and made the airbox a little deeper.”

The results of those modifications definitely paid off, as they took the already effective Gen2 and pushed its performance even higher.

“On my car, for example, we picked up about 30 horsepower,” BJ added. “And, before that, we picked up 50 horsepower going from Gen1 to Gen2, so there was another 30 in just maximizing airflow.”
