Racepak has been a virtual household name in racing circles for decades, but with the trickle down of technology and pricing for the semi-professional and amateur racers, it’s become increasingly difficult to find a race car that doesn’t have Racepak products onboard or a racer that doesn’t have a Racepak on their wish list.
Not only has the company expanded their technology ten-fold over the years, but they’ve continually worked to simplify the setup, installation, and operation of their products, making data acquisition and monitoring available to everyone.
Here at PRI, Racepak has some of their latest and most popular Smartwire power control modules on display, which are power distribution units for the chassis, sporting 125 amps of output and featuring 30 outputs and 12 inputs. The company debuted their Drag Smartwire and Street Smartwire last year, but since that time have completed and launched their wiring harnesses to pair with the modules.
“The Street Smartwire comes with the wiring harness specifically for a road car and is pre-programmed for road use,” explains Racepak’s Chris Vopat. “So you can wire up the car, put power to it, and the car will start and run and then you can do custom things to it as far as setting delays for different functions, giving it logic statements like ‘if I turn off ignition and temperature is 200 degrees or above, I want fan the fan to stay on for five minutes or until temperature is below 120’, or ‘if fuel pressure on pump number one drops to zero, activate circuit for pump number two’. ”
The Drag Smartwire, likewise, is pre-programmed for drag racing use and comes with a wiring harness designed for such, all color-coded and marked for easy installation. The Drag module supports things like headlights and tail lights to compliment the needs of the entry-level sportsman racers, along with more
Racepak has also added a new street-focused keypad that customers can install in their vehicles that offers a more road car interior appearance versus a toggle switch panel, with user-replaceable decals to mark each key, all of which can be programmed to run your lights, fans, fuel pumps, and other inputs.
