It’s almost too easy to make huge power with a modern engine and boost or nitrous. However, once you make that kind of power the stock drivetrain components might not be up to the task. The clutch often takes the brunt of this power attack, so Fidanza developed its new VT Twin-Disc clutch for modular powered Fords.
“This is available in both an organic-style disc and a ceramic disc, so you have two options are available with anywhere for 800 to 1,000 lb-ft of torque capability,” Dan Jenkins of Fidanza told us.
This clutch features a sprung hub and it is paired with one of Fidanza’s lightweight aluminum flywheels. You can opt for an organic material to reach the 800 lb-ft zone or select a ceramic compound corral four digits of torque.
“The design of ours gives a soft pedal effort, so you don’t have to stand on it when you are trying to get that power down to the ground,” Dan said. “It is still streetable, but you can use it on a track all you like. You can still use it on a daily driver and drive it to and from the track.”
If you are just in the market for a robust flywheel for your 1996-2004 Mustang, Fidanza also launched a new line of lightweight-steel flywheels for multiple models including the SN-95 and New Edge ’Stangs (PN 386481; $432.83).
“The lightweight steel flywheel is going to sell against a chrome-moly-style flywheel, the difference being that it’s going to be a little bit more durable than a chrome-moly and it is reusable,” Dan explained.
While it isn’t serviceable like Fidanza’s aluminum offerings, this flywheel should yield a long service life.
“It is a single-piece design—unlike our aluminum, which is a multi-piece—so it will eventually need to be replaced,” Dan added. “The biggest thing comparing it to chrome-moly in the same price range is that you are going to have longevity.”
