Video: AEMData Analysis Software Helps Tony Hobson Run Personal Best

After making the trek to Maryland all the way from Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Tony Hobson put his 2014 turbocharged Mustang GT into the third qualified spot in the NMRA’s Turbo Coyote Shootout at Maryland International Raceway. At only 16 pounds of boost, Hobson’s machine put down a new personal best pass of 8.64 at 158.45 mph. The 5.0-liter engine was built by Rich Groh Racing Engines, and gets its motivation from a Bullseye Power S480 80mm turbocharger, running through a Powerglide transmission.

One item on the machine that Hobson credits for his improved performance is the use of AEM Electronics‘ Infinity ECU system complete with their AEMdata Analysis Software.

Check out how the AEMdata software is able to map the position of both intake and exhaust camshafts all the way down the track.

“It’s been on the car for a couple of months now and I love it. I haven’t had any problem with it whatsoever. It’s easy to use, it just opened up everything to me and improved the whole car,” says Hobson.

The AEMdata software provides the user a simple way to overlay the data monitored by the Infinity Engine Management System right onto a track video, whether it be a dragstrip, road course, or otherwise.

By combining video with the parameters monitored by the engine management system, the driver, tuner, and crew chief can observe what’s happening in real-time and make tuning decisions based on logged information instead of trying to decipher what they think they see.

“You can display any logged parameter on video using AEMdata, and there are a lot of really cool features built into the software. You can display logged parameters using round gauges, vertical and horizontal bar graphs, text displays, bitmask displays, radar and track maps, and add images like logos. You can customize the colors and the designs,” says AEM’s Lawson Mollica.

“It’s also easy to sync data. You just find a spot in any part of the video that matches the same point of the log and sync it from there and the software aligns the video with the data, eliminating the need to try and find the start point of both files and matching them up. Envision hearing and seeing your car get up on the 2-step on video, finding that point in your logs, aligning the sliders and hitting the button, it’s really that easy. You can also import any type of video. Whatever the file type, AEMdata will import it and use it.”
