Project 666 Mustang is moving along, with the hairy goal of putting down 666 horsepower and running 10s. We removed the stock T-5 tranny and clurch from our mighty four-eyed ’86 Mustang to make room for a fresh, durable TKO-600 transmission from Tremec and a fresh SPEC clutch.
We remove the stock exhaust and open it up with aftermarket headers and a full exhaust system with Kooks headers and Flowmaster mufflers on our pet Fox Body Mustang, more commonly known as “Project 666.”
It’s been a while since we last updated you on our Fox-body Mustang, dubbed “Project 666,” and we’ve been busy getting it ready to come back to life. his car is basically all new, and finally ready to wake the neighbors and spin the rollers on our Dynojet. But first, a quick review of how we got here…
The challenge was laid out to me by the crew here at power TV: put together a potent naturally aspirated Ford Windsor based engine to topple the 666 horsepower mark for the in house Project 666 Mustang. In addition, it needed to be reliable as it creeped past the 7,500 RPM mark through all the gears.
Automotive gauges have a history as long as the automobile itself, with tachometers (adapted from instruments used on steam locomotives and industrial machines) first appearing on dashboards in 1903. Since that time, gauges have come a long way, and one company advancing the state of the art is Auto Meter. They have been making performance racing instruments for automotive, marine, and motorcycle applications since 1957, and they’ve become synonymous with aftermarket gauges thanks to their broad range of products and applications.
With Project 666, our Fox-body Ford Mustang almost 2 years in the making, this year’s LA Invasion was a day of trials and tribulations. Leading the charge for 666 was shop wizard Sean Goude, trusty wrench and sales guy Tom “Terror” Bobolts, myself, and my pregnant wife Melissa. We were a motley crew. Check out our story, plus videos!
